Role Description The Physical Security System Installation and Service Technician is a full-time, on-site role based in the Greater Toronto Area, Canada. In this position, the technician installs, configures, and tests physical security systems such as access control, CCTV, intrusion detection, and related hardware and software. Day-to-day responsibilities include performing service calls, troubleshooting system issues, completing preventive maintenance, and documenting work performed in accordance with company and customer standards. The technician collaborates with project managers and customer representatives, ensures compliance with safety and regulatory requirements, and provides clear updates on project status and service outcomes. The role also involves occasional after-hours support, adherence to site security protocols, and continuous learning to stay current on new security technologies. Qualifications Strong technical skills in installing, configuring, and servicing physical security systems (e.g., access control, CCTV, intrusion alarms, panels, and related network devices). Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and specifications, and to use diagnostic tools and test equipment effectively. Solid troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities, with experience identifying root causes and implementing reliable solutions in the field. Knowledge of basic networking concepts (IP addressing, cabling, switches, and routers) and familiarity with software-based configuration tools. Commitment to safety practices and regulatory compliance, including working at customer sites while following company safety standards and local codes. Effective communication and customer service skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly and work cooperatively with clients and team members. Strong organizational skills, including accurate documentation, time management, and the ability to manage multiple service tasks or projects. Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within the Greater Toronto Area; capability to perform physical tasks such as lifting equipment and working on ladders. Relevant technical diploma, trade certification, or equivalent experience in security systems, electrical, electronics, or a related field; manufacturer or industry certifications are an asset. Previous experience in physical security system installation or service in commercial, industrial, or institutional environments is preferred.
