Job details
Electronics Prototyping and Assembly Contractor Beseem Technologies Inc. is a Calgary-based medical simulation company developing FASTneo™, a neonatal point-of-care ultrasound training simulator. FASTneo™ combines custom electronics, sensor-based tracking, physical simulation equipment, 3D-printed components and specialized software to support realistic medical training. We are seeking a skilled and dependable independent contractor to provide electronics assembly, testing, sensor integration and prototyping services for the physical devices used in our simulation systems. About the Contract This is a hands-on, production-focused contract combining electronics assembly, sensor integration and mechanical CAD design. The contractor will assemble, wire, configure and test established electronic devices according to supplied specifications. The contractor may also support product improvements by integrating sensors into additional locations and designing or modifying functional components for 3D printing. Physical 3D printing will be managed separately. The contractor may be asked to prepare print-ready designs, evaluate completed parts and make design improvements where required. We are looking for someone with practical electronics and CAD experience who can produce careful, consistent work at an efficient pace. The contractor should be comfortable troubleshooting independently, documenting completed work and delivering assignments within agreed timelines. Scope of ServicesElectronics Assembly and Testing Assemble electronic probe and simulator components Solder wires, sensors, connectors and electronic components Install, route and secure wiring within physical assemblies Work with Arduino-based microcontrollers and sensor systems Upload supplied firmware and configure completed devices Perform functional testing and identify assembly defects Diagnose and correct wiring, soldering, sensor and component issues Work from supplied assembly instructions, wiring diagrams and quality-control requirements Record device identifiers, firmware versions and test results Deliver completed assemblies that meet agreed functional and workmanship requirements Sensor Integration and Prototyping Install and integrate sensors into designated simulator locations Recommend suitable sensor placement, mounting methods and wiring routes Modify existing wiring and physical assemblies to support new sensor configurations Prototype and test sensor placements Troubleshoot signal, alignment and integration issues Document sensor configurations, wiring changes and design revisions Submit agreed design files, test results and prototype deliverables CAD and Design for 3D Printing Design and modify functional parts for sensor mounts, electronics housings and simulator assemblies Develop and evaluate design iterations to improve fit, durability, assembly and device performance Prepare CAD models and print-ready files for company-managed or outsourced FDM 3D printing Apply appropriate tolerances, fastening methods, print orientation and support considerations Inspect completed printed parts and identify design, fit or print-quality problems Revise models based on physical testing and assembly results Assemble printed components with sensors, wiring and electronics Maintain organized CAD files, exported models and revision records Provide editable source files and agreed export formats upon completion Required Experience and Capabilities Electronics Engineering Technology education or equivalent practical experience Strong hand-soldering, wiring and electronics assembly skills Experience integrating and troubleshooting sensors in embedded or electromechanical systems Familiarity with microcontrollers, firmware and electronic testing Ability to use a multimeter and common electronics tools Ability to read wiring diagrams, schematics and technical assembly instructions Practical experience with parametric CAD software such as Fusion 360 or SolidWorks Experience designing functional parts for 3D printing Understanding of tolerances, fastening methods and design for assembly Ability to prepare CAD models and print-ready files for FDM 3D printing Ability to prototype, test and improve mechanical and electronic designs Strong attention to detail, organization and time management Ability to estimate work, communicate progress and meet agreed delivery dates Located in Calgary and available for occasional in-person meetings and exchanges of materials and completed work Access to a suitable, secure workspace where electronics assembly and soldering can be performed safely Preferred Experience Electronics Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, mechatronics, robotics or related education Experience with Arduino microcontrollers Experience with robotics, sensor-based products or electromechanical systems Experience assembling prototypes or small production runs Familiarity with FDM 3D-printing processes and materials such as PETG Experience creating assembly, manufacturing or testing documentation A portfolio showing functional parts or devices personally designed or assembled Work Arrangement The services will primarily be performed from the contractor’s own suitable and secure workspace in Calgary. The contractor will generally determine how and when the services are performed, subject to agreed specifications, milestones and delivery dates. The contractor is expected to provide the ordinary tools and equipment normally used in their work. Beseem Technologies will provide proprietary components, product-specific materials, specifications and firmware. Specialized equipment may be loaned where agreed and will remain the property of Beseem Technologies. The contractor is not required to own or accommodate a 3D printer. Physical printing will be managed separately by Beseem Technologies or an external printing resource. Occasional in-person meetings and local exchanges of equipment, materials and completed devices will be required. The selected contractor will be required to sign an independent contractor services agreement and a confidentiality and intellectual property agreement before receiving proprietary product information. Contract Details Independent contractor engagement Initial four-week project Estimated workload of approximately 15 hours per week, depending on assigned work and agreed deliverables $34 per hour, invoiced by the contractor Flexible working schedule, subject to agreed milestones and delivery dates Possibility of additional projects or an extended service agreement based on performance and production needs No guarantee of minimum hours or ongoing work beyond the initial project unless agreed in writing The contractor will be responsible for their own income taxes, CPP contributions, GST where applicable, insurance and other business obligations Application Process Please submit: A résumé or summary of relevant experience Examples of hands-on work involving electronics assembly, soldering, wiring, sensors, microcontrollers, CAD or prototyping Photographs, links or a portfolio showing functional parts or devices personally designed or assembled A description of your individual contribution to any team projects Confirmation that you have access to an appropriate workspace and ordinary electronics assembly tools Your availability and confirmation that you are willing to provide the services at the stated rate Selected applicants will be invited to an interview. Finalists may be asked to complete a short paid sample task under a separate written agreement before the main contract is awarded. Detailed product designs, internal assembly photographs and proprietary technical information will only be provided after appropriate confidentiality documentation is signed.
