Job summary
Overview Element Edmonton has an opportunity for a Receiving and Prep Technician to join our rapidly expanding team. As a member of the operations team in one of the various laboratories across Element, the Receiving and Prep Technician position performs a variety of routine and non-routine testing assignments within the department assigned and insures timely and accurate test results under direct supervision. The technician positions must be proficient in a number of core business skills including but not limited to compliance to established safety rules, code of conduct, and company policies and procedures. This is a seasonal position scheduled to end on 31 December 2026. Responsibilities Receive, inspect, and log client samples in accordance with company Quality Management System (QMS), Safety Manual, and established standard operating procedures. Verify sample integrity, documentation, chain of custody, and client requirements upon receipt. Accurately enter sample information, test requests, and related data into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Prepare client orders and sample submissions for laboratory testing while ensuring accuracy and adherence to established procedures. Label, sort, and organize samples to maintain traceability throughout the testing process. Store and warehouse samples according to specified handling, safety, and retention requirements. Prepare samples for testing using approved preparation methods and laboratory procedures. Maintain accurate records of sample receipt, preparation, storage, and disposition. Coordinate sample movement between receiving, storage, preparation, and testing areas. Skills / Qualifications Working knowledge of laboratory safety HS diploma or GED certificate preferred. College or vocational school coursework welcomed 0-2 years’ experience in a testing related field Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to accurately perform data entry and maintain records. Understanding of quality assurance and safety requirements. Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines. Proficiency with computer systems and LIMS software. Effective communication and teamwork skills. Ability to lift and move samples safely in a warehouse or laboratory environment. Physical Demands: Frequency of required physical force: Minimum (moderate).
