The Kativik Regional Government (KRG) covers the Kativik region, which covers an area of ??500,164 km2 in Northern Quebec and has 11,000 residents in 14 communities. The KRG's services, funded by the Government of Quebec (50%) and the Government of Canada (25%), cover a wide variety of services such as airport management and marine infrastructure maintenance. Local and regional economic, police services, employment, training, child care, sports and recreation.
The Kativik Regional Government employs 400 people across ten departments (eg, administrative, financial, legal, public safety, recreation). Regardless of the Kativik Regional Police Force (KRPF), KRG employees are close to 65% Inuit and women represent more than 44% of the workforce. More than 50% of them work in communities other than Kuujjuaq.
In keeping with the principle of employment equity - which the KRG adheres to - and the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement, priority can be given to the hiring of Inuit candidates. Some benefits are granted, such as living expenses (minimum $ 8,500 per year), a food allowance (minimum $ 3,453 per year) or three annual trips.
The KRG develops social initiatives by funding community and economic projects, through a job creation fund for northern villages.
