The Opportunity:

Parks Operations maintain public green spaces and outdoor recreational facilities to ensure that a diverse parks system is maintained to the highest possible standard. We ensure opportunities for active and passive leisure that will enhance quality of life for individuals and the community.

Each summer position/level has separate qualifications, expectations, and different shift schedules. Please review each level carefully prior to selecting the position(s) you are applying for.

PARKS MAINTENANCE WORKER (A-1) – $19.00/hour – Term: Immediate Start – August 30, 2024
• Grounds maintenance of all parks, boulevards, cemetery, playgrounds, and other City property
• Tasks include but are not limited to: weeding, trimming, litter pick up, basic maintenance, painting, and facility cleaning
• Shift: Monday to Thursday or Tuesday to Friday, 7:00am - 5:00pm (38-hour work week based on a 9.5-hour day)

PARKS MAINTENANCE WORKER (A-2) – EXTENDED TERM – $20.00/hour – Term: Immediate Start – September 27, 2024
• Grounds maintenance of all parks, boulevards, cemetery, playgrounds, and other City property
• Tasks include but are not limited to: weeding, trimming, litter pick up, basic maintenance, painting, and facility cleaning, asset refurbishing, asset install, operation of 1.5 ton truck and loader
• Shift: Monday to Thursday or Tuesday to Friday, 7:00am - 5:00pm (38-hour work week based on a 9.5-hour day)

WEEKEND CREW - PARKS MAINTENANCE WORKER (B) – $21.00/hour – Term: Immediate Start – September 2, 2024
• Grounds maintenance of all parks, boulevards, cemetery, playgrounds, and other City property
• Tasks include but are not limited to: weeding, litter pickup, facility cleaning, community event support, and equipment operation
• Shift: Friday to Monday, 7:00am - 5:00pm (38-hour work week based on a 9.5-hour day)

SPRAY PARK ATTENDANT - PARKS MAINTENANCE WORKER (C) – $21.00/hour – Term: Immediate Start – September 2, 2024
• Grounds maintenance at Chinook Winds Spray Park and surrounding Regional Park and maintaining a safe and clean environment at the Spray Park
• Tasks include but are not limited to: opening and closing the facility, monitoring and maintaining the quality of water at the Spray Park, general maintenance and upkeep of the facility and surrounding park
• Pool Operator Level 1 Certification preferred
• Shifts: Wednesday to Saturday, 10:30am to 8:30pm or Sunday to Wednesday, 10:30am to 8:30pm (38-hour work week based on a 9.5-hour day)

PARKS MAINTENANCE WORKER (D) - $20.00/hour – Term: Immediate Start – August 30, 2024
• Grounds maintenance of all parks, boulevards, cemetery, playgrounds, and other City property
• This position includes 4 separate categories of work: 1) Mower operator; 2) Sports fields and turf; 3) Flowers and horticulture; and 4) Playgrounds and amenities
• Tasks include but are not limited to: operation of mowers, tractors (up to 55hp), flower water trucks, and playground repairs
• Equipment operation experience preferred
• Shift: Monday to Thursday or Tuesday to Friday, 7:00am - 5:00pm (38-hour work week based on a 9.5-hour day)

IRRIGATION CREW - PARKS MAINTENANCE WORKER (E-1) – $20.00 - $21.00/hour - Term: Immediate Start – August 30, 2024
• Grounds maintenance of all irrigated greenspaces
• Tasks include but are not limited to: maintenance of irrigation systems and repairs as needed
• Experience with irrigation maintenance and repair is preferred
• Electrical trouble shooting would be an asset
• Wage is based on experience with irrigation
• Shift: Monday to Thursday or Tuesday to Friday, 7:00am - 5:00pm (38-hour work week based on a 9.5-hour day)

IRRIGATION CREW - PARKS MAINTENANCE WORKER (E-2) – EXTENDED TERM – $20.00 - $21.00/hour – Term: Immediate Start – October 11, 2024
• Grounds maintenance of all irrigated greenspaces
• Tasks include but are not limited to: maintenance of irrigation systems and repairs as needed
• Experience with irrigation maintenance and repair is preferred
• Electrical trouble shooting would be an asset
• Wage is based on experience with irrigation
• Shift: Monday to Thursday or Tuesday to Friday, 7:00am - 5:00pm (38-hour work week based on a 9.5-hour day)

PARKS MAINTENANCE WORKER (F) – $21.00/hour – Term: Immediate Start – August 30, 2024
• Grounds maintenance of all parks, boulevards, cemetery, playgrounds, and other City property
• Tasks include but are not limited to: herbicide and pesticide application, weed inspection, operation of tractors (over 80hp), tree pruning, wood chipper operation and tree water truck
• Relevant experience and certification is preferred
• Shift: Monday to Thursday or Tuesday to Friday, 7:00am - 5:00pm (38-hour work week based on a 9.5-hour day)

You Bring:

ALL POSITIONS REQUIRE:
• Valid Class 5 driver's licence
• Ability to operate light equipment
• Basic horticulture and landscaping experience is an asset
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a team environment
• Ability to work effectively in a fast paced environment
• Proven customer service skills
• A can-do, positive attitude

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

SPRAY PARK ATTENDANT - PARKS MAINTENANCE WORKER (C)
• Pool Operator Level 1 Certification preferred

PARKS MAINTENANCE WORKER (D)
• Equipment operation experience preferred

IRRIGATION CREW - PARKS MAINTENANCE WORKER (E)
• Experience with irrigation maintenance and repair is preferred
• Electrical trouble shooting would be an asset

PARKS MAINTENANCE WORKER (F)
• Relevant experience and certification is preferred

Additional Information:

Working conditions: 38-hour work week based on a 9.5-hour day. Work is done primarily outside under all weather conditions. This work is physically demanding and may involve some heavy lifting, prolonged bending, and kneeling.

If required, a maximum of 76 hours of unpaid vacation may be allotted during the term.

Employees who complete the term and maintain the required hours will be eligible for a pay supplement at the end of the term (further information will be provided on the first day).

Successful candidates must provide a current driver's abstract and criminal records check. This will be coordinated upon job offer.
