 As a member of our Infrastructure group, you will provide insight and innovative construction solutions to ensure the successful execution of various infrastructure projects, such as: roadways, highways and interchanges; bridges and overpasses; water and wastewater treatment facilities; transmission lines; general/public transportation including airports, seaports and light rail transit lines (LRTs); and conventional and alternative power generation like wind farms and district energy facilities. You will also further hone your skills operating under various delivery methods including Design-Build, P3 (Public-Private Partnership), Construction Management and IPD (Integrated Project Delivery).

The Project Director, Rail reports directly to the GM Rail Infrastructure – Transportation and is responsible for the delivery of multi disciplinary rail infrastructure projects.  As signing authority on all bids and change orders, this position has significant financial impact on the profitability of the organization.

As a Project Director - Rail at Graham you will:

  • Contributes to the Infrastructure Rail sector's business plans, objectives and control procedures within the overall company business strategy and policies.
  • Actively participate in the marketing of Graham's Infrastructure Rail capabilities to new and existing clients, direct the development of marketing proposals and bids, search our new business opportunities, participate in industry events and social functions.
  • Plan, staff and direct work activities of Infrastructure Rail projects including the recruitment of key personnel, the formation of project teams and work assignments, mentoring and coaching Project Managers, Estimators and Superintendents, providing performance feedback and discipline (if required).
  • Establish the project budget and maintain a positive financial position for the Infrastructure Rail sector by establishing and maintaining proper cost control procedures and project cost reporting, identify and manage project risks within reasonable limits, and monitor all project costs for opportunity to reduce overheads and improve margins.
  • Monitor overall quantity and quality of work performed by the Infrastructure Rail sector, intervene when required to ensure quality workmanship, deadlines are achieved and safety and environmental issues are managed in a professional and prudent manner.
  • Actively participate in the development of project estimates and bid proposals, approval all final bids and attend all key project meetings and owner meetings, act as Graham's representative on all major construction issues and change orders.
  • On large Rail projects, may act as Graham's lead Construction Manager to ensure proper representation and control of Graham's interests and commitment to the successful delivery of the project.
  • Participate in inter-company management committee meetings to develop and enhance business processes and systems, share ideas and enhance overall company performance.

Work Location: 

This position will be located in our Toronto Operations (6108 Edwards Blvd., Mississauga ON, L5T 2V7) Office.

Terms of Employment:

  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada for anyone other than the current employer.
  • This is a full-time (40 hours per week), permanent role.
  • Competitive salary ($190,000 to $210,000) with annual bonus potential, ownership opportunities and potential yearly merit increases.

  • Significant travel may be required for this role

The successful candidate will have the following:


  • Completion of a four (4) year Engineering degree or diploma in an Electrical program.
  •  Equivalent work experience will be considered.


  • Minimum 10 – 15 years' experience in managerial roles at a medium to large General Contractor, inclusive of at least 3 years of recent experience in a Director / Senior Leadership position leading large Rail Infrastructure projects of $200M+.
  • Experience in multiple delivery models, including Design Build
  • Experience in and strong technical knowledge of Rolling Stock, Signaling, OCS, Track and Power Systems
  • Construction project management, estimating, engineering and marketing experience
  • Experienced with multi disciplinary rail projects including light rail

Competencies and Attributes:

  • Extensive knowledge of rail construction methods and procedures
  • Skilled and experienced at design management role
  • Skilled and experienced at preparing large rail bids and proposals
  • Strong leadership and people management skills
  • Proven experience being part of a senior leadership team at a business level
  • Environmentally aware with formal training
