The purpose of Facilities Maintenance is to ensure the efficient operation and maintenance of buildings, equipment, and systems to support the smooth functioning of airport operations. The department's success lies in its ability to proactively identify and address maintenance needs, prioritize tasks, and provide timely and effective solutions, thereby minimizing downtime and maximizing productivity.

Position overview 

This Plumber position presents a unique opportunity to work on the largest building in BC, exposing you to a diverse range of exciting systems. By leveraging your expertise in diagnosing and promptly resolving plumbing issues, delivering exceptional customer service, and contributing to a seamless and efficient workflow, you'll play a crucial role in maintaining the building's infrastructure and ensuring the utmost satisfaction of our clients. A sample of the many systems you will be responsible for include sewage, fire protection, dyke pump stations, fire hydrants and back flow preventers throughout Sea Island. 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Inspecting, repairing, and testing backflow assemblies
  • Preventative and corrective maintenance of sewer, storm and dyke pump stations
  • Responding to flooding: sewer/ storm backups, waterline/water main breaks
  • Responding to hydronic leaks: chilled, heating or glycol systems
  • Responding to natural gas or diesel fuel system issues
  • Responding to fire suppression system issues

Key qualifications include:

  • Three years’ recent, related experience, supplemented by a BC Trade Qualification as a Plumber/Gas fitter and a Cross Connection Control tester certification
  • Ability to interpret and apply the National Plumbing Code
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Good communication skills with the ability to work in a team environment with other trades, as well as independently, with little supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to make safety a top priority
  • Valid BC driver’s license

Shift work is required as the Maintenance Department operates on a 24-hour basis.

This position is open to both Vancouver Airport Authority employees and external candidates. Previous job performance will be taken into consideration for all internal candidates that apply for this position.

Salary Range : $72,544 to $94,811 per annum, based on 40 hours per week. This is individually tailored to reflect your unique experience, qualifications and internal equity.
