Position: Director, Construction

Department: Arena Operations

Reports to: Executive VP & Arena General Manager


Canucks Sports & Entertainment and Rogers Arena, located in Vancouver, BC, are anticipating an exciting future and have plans for a number of new development opportunities. We are now seeking a Director, Construction who will prepare for and manage all new major construction projects, including completion of new Arena premium locations and other major projects in the coming years. In addition to successfully leading and motivating multiple project teams, this role will play a significant role in maintaining and strengthening strong relationships within project teams.

(Other duties may be assigned as required)

  • Manage all construction projects affiliated with and on behalf of Canucks Sports & Entertainment (CSE) and liaise with Aquilini Group (AG) representatives and construction project managers with the best interests of CSE in mind
  • Partner closely with developers, project managers, consultant engineers and designers, and local authorities to ensure the completion of the construction plan is on time and within budget
  • Provide timely feedback to project team on design elements and details to allow for prompt and decisive decision making during the design phase
  • Evaluate the progress of construction through regular review and site visits with Senior PMs and project teams
  • Monitor production schedules, critical paths for projects, and cost control to ensure that projects are completed on time, meet expected quality and within budget
  • Respond to issues that arise and provide guidance to ensure resolution and quality standards are consistently maintained
  • Build strong relationships with all project stakeholders
  • Attend and actively participate in regular meetings with project members and senior management to facilitate effective project communication
  • Develop, manage, and execute the corporate capital plan for all of Rogers Arena projects
  • Serve as a committed and responsible member of the Leadership Team, contributing to the strategic planning process


  • Post-secondary education in a related study, and a minimum of 10-15 years’ pre-construction and project management experience in related role, or an equivalent of education and experience
  • Extensive knowledge and an understanding in all aspects of commercial construction and building maintenance
  • Proven record and ability to execute exceptional work on time and within budget
  • A strong personal network of construction and trade professionals - ability to leverage these relationships to deliver quality and excellence to the client
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to manage conflict effectively and deal with challenging conversations with ease
  • Successful leadership of high performing teams
  • Proven record of developing and maintaining strong relationships and a collaborative spirit with peers and external partners
  • A strong record of personal and team achievement over his/her career with clear substantial personal contributions to the positive evolution of the business through innovative thinking and an ability to make things happen
  • Superior listening skills with a level of intellectual ability/agility
  • A high degree of personal integrity and consistently put the interests of the organization ahead of his/her own
