Job Description

Our Geotechnical team is looking for an adaptable, self-motivated EIT to provide geotechnical engineering services and task execution within the Civil Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering geotechnical site investigation, analysis, design and construction review services, within the context of overall project management objectives for civil infrastructure, dams, mines, and hydroelectric projects.

Responsibilities, carried out with supervision from the team, will include:

  • Participating in planning and execution of geotechnical site investigation including test pitting, drilling, and cone penetration testing
  • Quality Assurance and Quality Control of Civil/Geotechnical related construction activities
  • Conducting field work including soil and rock core logging, in-situ testing and data acquisition, and installation and monitoring of geotechnical instrumentation
  • Completing soil laboratory testing and data interpretation
  • Conducting geotechnical analyses, including slope stability, seepage and foundation analysis under direction of a senior engineer
  • Assisting the development of engineering documents such as technical memorandums, factual and design reports, cost estimates and construction specifications
  • Participating in multidisciplinary project teams, including ensuring the technical quality of deliverables
  • Collaborating and participating in technical discussions with team members and clients
  • Participating in proposal efforts

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering; an appropriate postgraduate degree would be an asset
  • Registered or eligible for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with Engineers and Geoscientist of BC (EGBC)
  • 1-3 years of relevant professional geotechnical engineering experience in consulting engineering environment
  • Strong academic background and solid understanding of soil mechanics and foundation engineering
  • Experience in two or more of the following areas:
    • Mine design with focus on tailings facility, and waste rock stockpiles
    • Hydroelectric or water retaining dams, intake and penstock
    • Earth dams and levees
    • Geotechnical design of roads and pipelines
    • Geotechnical investigations- including drill hole logging and instrumentation, field mapping or laboratory testing
  • Previous experience with geotechnical software such as Geotec, SLOPE/W, SEEP/W, Settle3, and other general software such as AutoCAD, MathCAD and MS Office
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites
