Job Description

Your role as a senior piping designer will be to:

  • Design piping layouts, 3D modelling (CADWorx and Smartplant 3D) and generate isometric drawings, GA’s, piping plans and details or other deliverables as part of piping mandates for the industry. You will also use 3D scanning technology and the point clouds that are generated.
  • Supervise, assign, and schedule the piping design activities for a specific Area/Unit. Normally reporting to the Lead Piping Design Supervisor and supervise other piping designers in your project team.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining piping design estimates, budgets, schedules and, staffing needs for projects and assigned areas.
  • Plan, develop, organize and control project-specific criteria or standards (Pipe supports, specifications and design criteria).
  • Understanding of pipe stress and works with stress engineers on piping design.
  • Receives and distributes design instructions pertaining to plant design requirements and procedures.
  • Update PFD’s and P&ID master documents.
  • Assess client satisfaction and maintain close relations with clients. Determine costs and quantities in accordance with client needs.
  • On assignment to the field, supports construction in drawing and specification interpretations, design modifications, scheduling, and system checkout and testing.
  • Initiates the development of all required discipline deliverables for the assigned area.
  • Perform cross discipline checking of drawings and 3D models.
  • Conduct 3D model reviews, check and review isometrics and piping drawings.
  • Communicate with vendors and vendor data efficiently in designs. Understanding of Mechanical equipment and perform vendor review checks.
  • Help in training and mentoring of junior and intermediate designers
  • Actively participate in seeking innovative solutions.
  • Perform other technical functions to help deliver projects.

Requirements

  • College Diploma in mechanical engineering or another relevant program.
  • 10+ years relative experience in piping design, layout and design drafting.
  • Strong knowledge of AutoCAD, Smarplant 3D, CADWorx Plant, and Navisworks. (Solidworx, Revit or Inventor an asset)
  • Excellent command of AutoCAD.
  • Experience in piping design in the following sectors: mining, hydropower, clean energy, oil and gas, pulp and paper would be considered an asset.
  • Have strong communications and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent knowledge of current software, such as MS Office suite, databases and interfaces
  • Ability to travel and perform site work, where required
  • Asset: Bilingual (English and French)
