This position in Fort Erie, Ontario is in a unionized food manufacturing plant with 275 associates. Fort Erie is a border town with Buffalo New York and offers a rare combination of small-town values and easy access to big city amenities and culture.

We are in search of an experienced Maintenance Mechanic who will be responsible for applying their maintenance knowledge and expertise on the plant floor. The successful candidate will play a key role in the success of our organization by installing, repairing and maintaining machinery in the plant.


The Maintenance Mechanic controls the efficient operation of all plant equipment by performing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and electronic repair and preventive maintenance.

  • To install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair manufacturing equipment, including hydraulics, pneumatics and some electrical.
  • Share knowledge of applicable mechanical concepts and principles with other maintenance personnel.
  • To respond quickly to any calls from production to keep equipment operational and ensure production runs smoothly.
  • To make sure all food safety standards are followed.
  • To be able to work well independently and in a group.
  • To record work on a Work or PM order, details and parts used.
  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks as scheduled and report results.
  • Perform special projects from time to time as assigned in a cost effective and timely manner.
  • Communicate effectively with Managers, Team Leaders, other Maintenance associates, production, outside vendors and equipment manufacturers.
  • To work in a safe and efficient manner.
  • High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • Industrial Millwright Certificate 443A.
  • Knowledge of TPM (Total Productivity Manufacturing) would be a definite asset.
  • Refrigeration operator B certificate would be an asset.
  • Computer skills, MS Word, Excel, and Outlook would be an asset.
  • Minimum 3 years experience working as a millwright.
  • Must be able to perform various physical skills associated with the trade.
  • Daily activities include walking, standing, reaching, twisting, stooping, grasping and working near noisy equipment, and occasionally working in the freezer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 22 kg (50 lbs).
