As a Senior Security Engineer within our ITS Infra and Data Centre Ops Department, you'll coordinate and lead the design, implementation and monitoring of security controls, in compliance with Peel Regional Police (PRP) security policy, and in support of the Information Technology security strategy. This will include the creation of security procedures, processes and reports in support of these controls.

RESPONSIBILITIES

More specifically, as a Senior Security Engineer, you will:

  • Be responsible for the management of security systems, including security configuration, and tuning of security alerts to maximize the overall effectiveness of security technologies (e.g. Security Incident and Event Management (SIEM), vulnerability management, end-point protection, firewall technologies, etc.).
  • Participate and provide security guidance on projects, ensuring adherence to security policy and security best practices. Conduct research and keep current on IT security trends in the industry and provide guidance to IT staff.
  • Perform security assessments, including vulnerability scanning, penetration testing, security policy compliance and Threat Risk Assessments (TRA) on PRP systems, applications and data.
  • Lead security incident response activities, including coordination of incident handlers, forensic analysis of systems and security logs, remediation of incidents, and generation of final incident reports.
  • Collect required audit information and provide audit reports in support of internal investigations.

QUALIFICATIONS

In the role of Engineer – Senior Security, you will apply the following education, experience and skills:

  • A university degree in Computer Science or Information Security or equivalent.
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) designation.
  • Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), GIAC Security Essentials (GSEC), EC-Council Certified Incident Handler (ECIH) and GIAC Certified Incident Handler (CGIH) designations are preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of five (5) years' related experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of CIS Critical Security Controls.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of implementation/administration of products in the area of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), Hardware Security Modules (HSM), Virtual Private Networking (VPN), Firewalls, Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), End-point protection (Antivirus, application whitelisting), Vulnerability Management tools, Security Incident and Event Management (SIEM).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Windows PowerShell.
  • Effective oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated presentation and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical, research and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid Ontario Driver's Licence (Class G) with full driving privileges.

The salary range for this permanent, full-time position is $63,395 to $106,814 per annum and is complemented by a comprehensive benefit program, including employer-paid Health/Dental and Life Insurance; and the OMERS Pension Plan. OMERS is a defined benefit pension plan that provides a pension at retirement based on earnings and years of service in the plan. Both the employees and the employer contribute to the pension plan.
