Job Title:  Engineering Technician

Reports to:  Manager Electric Distribution

Department:  Engineering Services

Location:  1867 Ashburnham Dr.

Rate: $31.48 to $37.86 per hour

 

Position Overview

Your engineering skills will be used to support the electric utilities' construction and maintenance activities, customer-driven projects and developments and coordinate utilities with municipal improvements. You will prepare engineering design packages, prepare, review and award construction contracts, and review and comment on various engineering submissions. As such, you will be required to interact in a professional and effective manner with internal and external customers in person, by telephone, and in writing.

 

Main Accountabilities

  1.   Design, drafting, bill of material preparation, layout, inspection and customer coordination for various projects including:    
    1. Overhead and underground electrical distribution systems;
    2. Commercial and industrial electrical service design; and
    3. Street lighting systems.
  2. Prepare and administer construction contracts, including completing tender specifications, preparing pay certificates, contract interpretation, enforcement and ensuring due diligence requirements are met;
  3. Prepare "Offers to Connect" in accordance with company practices, including the processing of service charges, collection and release of securities;
  4. Perform  Electro Magnetic Field (EMF), power quality analysis, and other engineering studies;
  5. Review and comment on municipal consent drawings;
  6. If available and called, must be able to perform emergency Engineering functions after hours;
  7. Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others that is dependent upon their actions. Report hazards and unsafe acts or conditions encountered on the job to fellow workers and supervisors. Responsible for having a working knowledge of all applicable safety legislation pertaining to the job; and
  8. Other duties as required or assigned.

 

Education

 

Advanced (College Diploma, Certificate or Trade )  discipline: Engineering Technology Diploma along with O.A.C.E.T.T. certification

 

Experience

 

Minimum two (2) years experience in an electrical utility environment coupled with electrical distribution system design

 

 Skills (Technical Skills):

  1. Knowledge and/or experience is desired in the following:
    • Operation of electrical distribution systems including but not limited to the ability to read and interpret electrical distribution and service maps;
    • Survey plans including the ability to read and interpret, staking, field layout and investigation;
    • SCADA/Load Management Systems;
    • GIS and/or CAD systems;
    • Underground plant locating; and
    • Electrical Utility Safety Rules and Electrical Safety Authority.
  1. Specification preparation, subdivision agreement preparation, and contract administration experience;
  2. Ability to coordinate and complete projects on schedule and within budget requirements;
  3. Demonstrated experience and excellent use of Microsoft Office Suite applications;
  4. Must hold a valid Class G driver's license and have an excellent driving record;
  5. Demonstrated excellent safety record and safe-working attitude;
  6. Demonstrated excellent attendance record; and
  7. Ability to meet the Physical Demands Analysis.
