The Challenge

EXP’s Thunder Bay office is currently seeking a Materials Testing Technician to join their team. The successful candidate will be joining a fast-paced and growth-oriented environment.

Your Responsibilities

• Field work consisting of:
  • soil and asphalt compaction testing with a nuclear densometer
  • concrete sampling and testing
  • soil footing subbase inspections
  • reinforcing steel inspections
  • pile driving monitoring
  • test pit and borehole drilling supervision and soil logging
  • some level surveying
• Laboratory work consisting of:
  • Soils testing including grain size analysis, Atterberg Limits and other testing
  • Concrete testing of hardened cylinders
  • Asphalt testing
• Writing clear and concise field inspection reports
• Reviewing laboratory and field inspection reports

The Skills, Knowledge, and Ability We Seek

• Environmental/Geological/Civil Technician or Technology Diploma preferred
• 2+ years of related field experience preferred but we will strongly consider those with less experience
• Excellent communication skills (verbal/written) in English
• Familiarity with and some working knowledge of office software
• Must be comfortable working in the field on construction project sites and traveling out of town, possibly for several day’s duration
• Strong people skills and ability to work with the wide variety of staff and clients
• A valid Canadian driver’s license is required
