Your future role on our team

We are looking for an experienced and adaptable Mechanical Technician/Designer – Mining and Metals with a background in mine process plants to support the delivery of a wide range of greenfield and brownfield projects. The candidate will have experience with bulk material handling, crushing, and grinding circuits, flotation circuits, piping, HVAC, process plant layout, and mine site plan layout.

Experience should range from front end-studies through detailed design and field implementation. As part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team, this role will ensure the delivery of exceptional technical quality, the development of new business opportunities, and nurturing of the professional development of members of the Mechanical team.

  • Be a key member of small to major brownfield/greenfield projects involving bulk material handling, crushing and grinding circuits, flotation circuits, piping, HVAC, process plant layout, and mine site plan layout.
  • Prepare design deliverables in a CAD environment, including 3D layouts using AutoCAD, CADWorx, SmartPlant, and SolidWorks
  • Interpret complex drawings that incorporate multi-disciplinary elements
  • Design and prepare site plans, general arrangements, profiles, and sections
  • Design and prepare plans and specifications as part of mandates involving mechanics
  • Think like a plant operator as to how the facility will be constructed, operated, and maintained with worker safety front of mind
  • Embrace new technologies to push the profession of mine and plant design forward (Microsoft HoloLens, future design platforms, point clouds, GPS, and other data imports)
  • Adhere to established design guidelines and procedures
  • Maintain accurate design files for reference purposes
  • Assist in the preparation of estimates, schedules, and budgets
  • Take part in site inspections and surveys at client sites, locally and abroad.
  • Help coordinate and oversee the execution of work and implementation of systems designed.

Job requirements at a glance

  • College diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized college or any other relevant experience.
  • Minimum ten (10) years in mechanical design experience in one (or more) of the following sectors: mining and metals, energy, oil, chemicals, or biofuels
  • Must have knowledge of detailed mechanical design layouts of equipment access, maintenance requirements, and building code
  • Experience in engineering consulting environment (compensation will reflect your experience level)
  • Major asset: Mine site layout experience
  • Must be proficient in 2D and 3D modelling
  • Advanced knowledge of 3D CAD software, e.g., SmartPlant 3D, Microstation, Solidworks, CADWorx, and AutoCAD applications
  • Software: AutoCAD, CADWorx, SolidWorks, SmartPlant (asset)
  • Experienced in preparing complex drawings incorporating interfacing piping/mechanical design requirements with structural,
  • Experienced in checking 2D drawings and 3D models for clashes and constructability with other disciplines.
  • Asset: Bilingual (English and French)
