The Refrigeration Operator Class B is responsible for the safe operation of Refrigeration System, boilers and auxiliary equipment in a safe and efficient manner as per codes and regulations at a full-time site in Downtown Toronto.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operation and maintenance of the ice and arena floor surfaces. This will include but is not limited to: operating a guarded plant between 201 and 400HP according to TSSA standards; all aspects of ice maintenance such as installation, removal, painting, flooding, shaving, and testing; boards and shield maintenance, including inspections, repairs, replacements, and cleaning; and floor maintenance including cleaning, and painting.
  • Observe and record readings from all meters and gauges for fuel, water, and power consumption, as well as refrigeration readings and engineering log books
  • Responsible for checking for the proper operation of all mechanical equipment
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance, clean and lubricate equipment, assist during routine system testing
  • Understanding and adhering to all safety rules and regulations
  • Maintaining a safe and clean work environment
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Job Requirements:

  • Minimum ‘B’ Class Operator Certificate certified in the province of Ontario
  • Experience with chillers and boilers
  • Knowledge of Ontario operating standards
  • Must be able to work under special work conditions, such as extreme heat or cold using a personal protective equipment
  • Ability to work in elevated areas
  • Use of a computer and automation control systems
  • Ability to perform physical job duties which may include bending, lifting up to 50lbs, kneeling, climbing, and twisting safely, with or without a reasonable accommodation
  • Basic knowledge of industrial safety and environmental regulations with absolute commitment to safety
  • Ability to read blueprints and layout drawings
  • Must be able to operate machinery
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office software, with an emphasis on Excel and Word
  • Working knowledge of inventory systems
