                                                                                                GEOMATICS SPECIALIST

                                                                                                (Full-time, Permanent)

Under the supervision of the Renewable Resources, Environment, Lands & Parks Department Assistant Director, and working closely with the Land Use Planners, the responsibilities of the Geomatics Specialist will include, without being limited to:

  • Responsible for designing and programming new Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools, maps, data integration solutions, ETL processes, information transfer gateways and business intelligence tools
  • Conduct GIS analysis;
  • Plan and coordinate the implementation of a central geographic database and ensure its maintenance and perform quality assurance/quality control tasks to ensure GIS data integrity
  • Provide technical support to the department and collaborate with other professionals in processing, modeling, structuring, geospatial data manipulation and editing;
  • Liaise with other departments, consultants and Northern Villages to collect information;
  • Provide any requested training/support for the for the GIS technology to other staff;
  • Participate in various land use related projects;
  • Collection of data in the field using high definition GPS units and drones;
  • Perform other related duties, as required, by his supervisors.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • University degree in Geomatics or related fields;
  • Certificate Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) for Drone mapping is an asset;
  • Land use planning or Environmental science background is an asset;
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience;
  • Good knowledge of GIS software (ArcView, etc.), AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite and GPS tools utilization;
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills;
  • Written and oral working knowledge of at least two (2) of the following languages:  Inuktitut, English and French;
  • Be able to work autonomously and also contribute to a team environment;
  • Willing to travel throughout Nunavik;

Salary:     Min. $49 58954 / year – Max. $84 33698/ year (Class 8)

Other benefits:  Cost of living differential: minimum of $8,500 per year.

Food allowance: minimum of $3,707 per year.

Annual leave trips: maximum of 3 per person annually.

Simplified Pension Plan: 6% employer, 4% employee.

Group insurance.

Vacation: 20 days.

Statutory holidays: 19 days including 10 at Christmas.
