Description


The successful candidate is an efficient professional who establishes and maintains many client relationships and who has the skills to develop new relationships in the energy and heavy industry sectors. The candidate must be recognized in the market for his or her technical expertise and service excellence in designing electrical substations. The incumbent must also be as comfortable leading design projects as relying on his or her client network to generate requests for proposals, preparing and submitting proposals and managing project execution. As a senior engineer, you will contribute to business development, proposals and various engineering phases (preliminary and detailed engineering, construction assistance, etc.) related to designing electrical substations.

The successful candidate will carry out the following activities:

  • Approach new clients.
  • Develop and maintain lasting client relationships.
  • Network with client contacts to assess their needs and solicit requests for proposals.
  • Participate in innovation plans to diversify markets.
  • Define the scope of projects and proposals.
  • Lead engineering projects, design reviews and prepare technical reports.
  • Plan and coordinate work, from studies to commissioning.
  • Draft technical documents and provide technical training in own field of expertise.
  • Help prepare engineering studies: impact analysis, ground grid study, protection study, arc flash study, etc.
  • Prepare detailed engineering designs and technical specifications for construction.
  • Assign and review the work of junior engineers (interns), technicians and drafters assigned to projects and assess the technical scope.
  • Provide construction and commissioning support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical engineering or equivalent
  • Ten years of relevant experience with substations
  • Member of a Canadian professional engineering association
  • Practical experience in heavy industrial sectors: mining, oil and gas, electric power (electrical distribution and infrastructure of underground and open-pit mines, protection and control (P&C), electrical arrangement, equipment specifications, etc.)
  • Good knowledge of Canadian utilities standards (Hydro-Québec, Hydro One, etc.)
  • Excellent technical writing skills
  • Asset: Experience in a consulting engineering environment
  • Asset: Experience performing cost estimates and preparing and presenting proposals
  • Asset: Bilingual (English and French)
