Part-Time Contract | Greater Vancouver, BC | Hybrid Approximately 20–25 hours per week initially Compensation: CAD $75–$100/hour Language: English + conversational Mandarin required ABOUT THE ROLE Fanitek is developing industrial instrumentation-valve products and related pressure-containing components. We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer or Engineering Consultant who can also serve as a Technical Coordinator between company leadership, senior valve specialists, manufacturers, suppliers, inspectors, and test providers. This is a combined engineering and technical-coordination role. The successful candidate must be able to examine design inputs, apply relevant engineering standards, review calculations and drawings, discuss technical issues with specialists, and explain risks and decisions clearly to management. This role is not limited to CAD drafting or meeting administration. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Convert product-use, customer, and business requirements into controlled design inputs, engineering questions, and acceptance criteria. • Support or perform mechanical design and technical review of instrumentation valves, pressure-containing parts, assemblies, and associated test arrangements. • Identify and apply relevant ASME requirements together with applicable API, ASTM, MSS, ISO, customer, and jurisdictional requirements. • Review design assumptions, pressure and temperature conditions, load cases, material selection, corrosion or compatibility concerns, connections, sealing systems, and safety margins. • Prepare, review, and organize 3D models, engineering drawings, bills of materials, calculations, specifications, document registers, and revision-controlled release packages. • Coordinate design reviews with remote senior valve engineers and other specialists; record decisions, open items, owners, deadlines, and closure evidence. • Work with machine shops and suppliers on design for manufacture, tolerances, materials, certificates, inspection points, deviations, and engineering changes. • Support prototype planning, pressure and leakage test readiness, non-conformance review, design changes, and final technical-file completion. • Provide management with concise recommendations covering technical risk, cost, schedule, required decisions, and next steps. • Communicate routine technical information in both English and conversational Mandarin when working with Mandarin-speaking stakeholders. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS • At least 5 years of mechanical design and engineering experience involving pressure equipment, pressure vessels, piping, valves, fluid-control products, or comparable industrial products. • Mechanical Engineering degree, Mechanical Engineering Technology diploma, or another closely related technical qualification supported by substantial relevant experience. • Demonstrated capability comparable to a pressure-vessel or pressure-equipment designer, including defining design conditions, evaluating loads, selecting materials, completing or reviewing code calculations, preparing drawings, and supporting fabrication, inspection, and testing. • Working knowledge of applicable ASME codes and standards. Relevant experience may include ASME BPVC Section VIII, ASME B31.3, ASME B16.34, and ASME B1.20.1 where applicable. • Ability to identify when API, ASTM, MSS, ISO, customer specifications, or provincial/state regulatory requirements also apply. • Strong mechanical drafting and drawing-review capability, including dimensions, tolerances, GD&T, materials, surface finish, heat treatment, inspection requirements, and revision control. • Proficiency in at least one relevant design platform such as SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, Creo, or an equivalent 3D/2D mechanical design system. • Practical knowledge of machined components, manufacturing processes, design for manufacture, BOM control, supplier documentation, and prototype/test support. • Strong written and spoken English. • Ability to understand and communicate ordinary spoken Mandarin during technical discussions. Professional translation-level fluency is not required. • Ability to attend regular in-person meetings in Greater Vancouver and maintain predictable weekly availability. PREFERRED ASSETS • Direct experience with instrumentation valves, needle valves, ball valves, manifolds, fittings, regulators, pumps, or pressure vessels. • Experience with stainless steels, nickel alloys, polymers/packing, pressure-temperature ratings, material traceability, pressure testing, and leakage testing. • Experience coordinating with CNC machine shops, fabrication vendors, inspection bodies, test laboratories, or certification authorities. • P.Eng. registration in British Columbia or another relevant jurisdiction, or eligibility to register, is preferred where professional engineering authentication may be required. • AScT, EIT, CSWP, or another relevant technical/professional designation is an asset. WORKING ARRANGEMENT The preferred starting arrangement is a part-time contract of approximately 20–25 hours per week, with predictable availability and regular in-person working sessions in Greater Vancouver. The role may expand as the number of active products, supplier activities, and test programs increases. The successful candidate is expected to identify issues, make sound engineering recommendations, and drive technical closure. Any engineering authentication, sealed documents, or regulated professional-engineering work must be completed by a person registered and authorized for the applicable jurisdiction and scope.
