Full-time Custodian

Position: Full-time Custodian - London South Catholic Family of Parishes

Primary Work Location: 855 Jalna Blvd, London, Ontario. Travel to and work at St. Francis/Martin Parish ? 46 Cathcart St, London, Ontario is required.

Commitment: 35 hours per week. The standard days and hours of work are Wednesday to Sunday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (60 minute daily unpaid lunch). Flexibility in schedule, based on business needs, for occasional work during evenings is required.

*Compensation: Expected wage: $21.00 - $23.00/hour. *Placement within this range is commensurate with relevant industry experience, qualifications (education, skills) and/or professional designations. This position is eligible for participation in the DOL?s lay staff benefits and pension plans.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Business Manager, the London South Catholic Family of Parishes Custodian is responsible for maintaining the building?s operating systems, overseeing church grounds, facility upkeep, and managing volunteers for maintenance tasks. The Custodian collaborates with parish ministries/groups using the church facilities and works closely with other team members.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

· Clean and maintain all church buildings, including offices, meeting rooms, hall, washrooms, common areas, and exterior entry points.

· Perform routine and/or annual cleaning tasks, such as vacuuming, mopping, garbage and recycling removal, window cleaning, carpet cleaning, floor refinishing, etc.

· Maintain an adequate inventory of cleaning, washroom, and parish supplies (e.g., kitchen items, toilet paper, and garbage bags).

· Ensure all facilities, equipment, and mechanical/electrical systems?such as heating and cooling?are operational and well-maintained.

· Conduct preventative maintenance, perform minor repairs, and identify major repair needs for review with the Business Manager.

· Respond to building emergencies, alarms, and after-hours security issues as required.

· Maintain outdoor areas including grass cutting, pruning, lawn care, and garden upkeep; oversee gardening volunteers.

· Perform snow removal and apply de-icing agents to sidewalks and emergency exits, coordinate snow removal contractors.

· Set up and take down tables, chairs, and meeting rooms for events in coordination with administrative staff.

· Coordinate volunteer schedules for weekday coverage and collaborate with the Business Manager and other team members across the Family of Parishes.

· Arrange service calls with external contractors (e.g., plumbers, electricians, HVAC technicians) as approved.

· Perform additional related cleaning, maintenance, and event support duties as assigned.

· Sets priorities and manages workload in collaboration with the Business Manager.

· Other duties of a similar nature as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

· High School Diploma or acceptable equivalent in Ontario.

· Minimum of 3 years of relevant and related work in building and property maintenance, including knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems and preventative maintenance.

· Professional, pleasant, courteous, and welcoming disposition.

· Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

· Works well independently with minimum supervision as well as within a team.

· Responds promptly to Parish needs.

· Good attendance and punctuality.

· Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality.

· Knowledge of health and safety requirements and standards applicable to building maintenance.

· Knowledge on stripping, waxing, and buffing floors, and any chemicals and equipment used for this process.

· Willingness to support the teachings and mission of the Catholic Church, the Diocese of London, and the London South Catholic Family of Parishes.
