We are seeking a diligent, safety-focused and highly skilled Electrical Journeyperson who has a passion for the events industry and the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE). Our Electrical Journeyperson works under the direction of the Electrical Foreperson, Manager, Facilities & Maintenance, and Manager, Event Conversions, and is responsible for supporting electrical maintenance facility operations and event operations across Hastings Park including Playland but excluding ride maintenance electrical. This role is a hands-on trade position, performing electrical maintenance, repairs, installations, troubleshooting, temporary power support and event electrical set-ups/teardowns, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with BC Electrical Code, Technical Safety BC, WorkSafeBC, and PNE policies.

What will you do this year?

In your role as an Electrical Journeyperson your primary accountabilities will be to:

  • Perform electrical maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting and upgrades on building systems across multiple venues including Pacific Coliseum, Agrodome, Forum, Playland, Freedom Mobile Arch and other PNE facilities, excluding ride electrical systems.
  • Support the Electrical Foreperson and electrical team with day-to-day electrical maintenance and event support across Hastings Park.
  • Complete assigned work safely, efficiently and in accordance with BC Electrical Code, Technical Safety BC requirements, WorkSafeBC regulations and PNE policies.
  • Support event and conversion operations by installing, maintaining and removing temporary power, show power and electrical set-ups/teardowns for concerts, trade shows, sporting events, film shoots, the Fair, Playland, Fright Nights, FIFA and other special events.
  • Assist with reviewing event orders, drawings and production requirements; confirm electrical loads, connection points and safety considerations as directed.
  • Ensure event electrical equipment and systems are code compliant and meet WorkSafeBC requirements.
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks and corrective work and ensure work is accurately documented in the CMMS system, including labor, materials and asset history.
  • Participate in regular safety talks, hazard assessments, lockout/tagout procedures and incident reporting; promote and model a strong safety culture.
  • Coordinate work with other trades and departments including Mechanical, Carpentry, Conversions, Custodial, Playland Operations and other operational teams to minimize disruption and support smooth event turnarounds.
  • Assist external electrical contractors and service providers when required and support the Electrical Foreperson in monitoring work for quality, safety and adherence to PNE standards.
  • Provide technical support and input into maintenance, renewal and capital projects as required.
  • Respond to electrical service calls, urgent repairs and operational requests across the site.
  • Participate in on-call and respond to after-hours emergencies as operational needs require.
  • Operate tools and equipment related to electrical maintenance and event electrical support.
  • Operate equipment such as scissor lifts, boom lifts and other site equipment as required.
  • Ensure housekeeping standards are maintained in electrical rooms, shops and worksites.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What else?

  • Must be a Red Seal Journeyperson Electrician or hold an equivalent provincial Trade Qualification.
  • Must hold a valid electrical qualification to perform electrical work in British Columbia.
  • FSR designation is considered an asset.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in commercial, industrial or institutional electrical work is preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of:
  • BC Electrical Code and Technical Safety BC requirements
  • WorkSafeBC regulations and safe electrical work practices
  • Lockout/tagout procedures and electrical safety requirements
  • Experience working in a complex, multi-building environment such as arenas, stadiums, campuses, amusement parks or large public facilities is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in an event, entertainment, or amusement park environment is considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment, such as IBEW, is an asset.
  • Familiarity with CMMS software, such as Limble, and digital work order systems is preferred.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License, or equivalent, with an acceptable driving record, is required.
  • Equipment operation experience, including scissor lift and boom lift, is preferred.
  • Must be comfortable working an event-based schedule, including evenings, weekends, overnights and holidays as required by operations and event calendars.
  • Successful candidates must undergo a Criminal Record Check.
