About The Position ALS Geochemistry is seeking a Fire Assay Maintenance Technician to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of our fire assay production equipment. In this role, you will perform preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on specialized laboratory and industrial equipment, including fusion and cupellation furnaces, flux dispensing systems, and related production infrastructure. Your work will help improve equipment reliability, reduce production disruptions, extend equipment life, and control overall maintenance costs. This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically skilled and safety-focused individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced analytical laboratory environment. Key Responsibilities Equipment & Maintenance Maintain and service fusion furnaces, cupellation furnaces, furnace loading systems, and associated controls. Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on fire assay equipment and related systems. Inspect and maintain cooling tables, crucible tables, pouring equipment, and other production support systems. Maintain and repair deslagging stations, including mechanical components and safety devices. Inspect, repair, and maintain flux dispensing systems and tumbler units. Maintain crucible forks, handling tools, lifting devices, and other equipment to ensure safe operation. Monitoring & Operations Support Monitor furnace performance, identify wear or deterioration, and replace components as required. Conduct weekly temperature monitoring on all furnaces. Conduct daily inspections of dust collectors and replace drums as required. Respond promptly to equipment failures and breakdowns to minimize production interruptions. Perform routine equipment cleaning in accordance with established procedures. Support contractor coordination and work activities, as required Documentation, Compliance & Safety Maintain organized inventory, production logs, calibration records, and equipment documentation. Monitor spare parts inventory and identify critical replacement parts needed to support continuous operations. Prepare written reports and records using Microsoft Word and Excel. Follow established standard operating procedures, quality control protocols, and maintenance schedules. Maintain a clean and safe work environment and promptly communicate safety concerns to the Manager or Supervisor. Comply with all ALS health, safety, environmental, and operational policies and procedures. Perform additional duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Technical & Troubleshooting Skills Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Experience maintaining, inspecting, and repairing industrial or laboratory equipment. Willingness and ability to learn specialized fire assay equipment and processes. Administrative & Communication Skills Highly organized, motivated, and detail-oriented. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook. Strong written and verbal English communication skills Workplace Behaviours & Work Style Ability to work independently and contribute effectively as part of a team. Ability to manage competing priorities in a time-efficient and quality-focused manner. Strong commitment to workplace safety. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Required Qualifications Education & General Experience Technical diploma and/or at least three years of experience troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing various types of machinery. Specialized Experience A minimum of two years of experience in a fire assay laboratory, with hands-on maintenance experience, is preferred. Physical & Work Requirements Ability to lift up to 20 kg (45 lb). Ability to sit and/or stand for up to 7.5 hours per shift. Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks. Ability and willingness to wear all designated personal protective equipment (PPE). Availability to work day, afternoon, and night shifts, including weekends, in a 24/7 operating environment. Compensation & Benefits The estimated hourly pay for this position is $28.62 CAD per hour at the time of posting. Shift premium available for afternoon and night shifts. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education, and training.
