SMS Equipment is seeking Heavy Equipment Technicians (3rd year apprentices or Journeyperson) to join our team in Grande Prairie. In this role, you’ll perform repairs (in shop and field) and equipment builds for construction machinery. If you’re a strong troubleshooter who enjoys diagnosing issues and supporting customers in the field, this is an opportunity to put your expertise to work with an industry leader. Base Wage: $47.82 - $53.13per hour. Additional premiums and allowances may apply. Location: Grande Prairie, AB Schedule: 7x7 What You’ll Do * Perform assemblies, preventative maintenance, repairs, and complete overhauls on heavy equipment. * Diagnose equipment faults and malfunctions using computerized diagnostic and testing equipment. * Complete equipment builds and support repair activities in both shop and field settings. * Assess repair requirements and recommend appropriate corrective actions and improvement opportunities. * Interpret work orders, service information, and technical manuals. * Complete job-specific reports and required documentation accurately and on time. * Maintain a strong commitment to workplace health and safety practices. * Work independently in remote locations and adverse weather conditions as required. * Perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 50 lbs and working in confined spaces. What You Bring The successful candidate will be a registered 3rd year apprentice or Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician with 1-2 years experience maintaining and repairing heavy equipment. You are committed to safe work practices and enjoy troubleshooting equipment issues to support reliable customer operations. Other requirements include: * Experience performing maintenance and repair on heavy equipment, preferably construction equipment. * Valid Class 5 driver's license. * Willingness to travel and stay overnight at customer locations when required. * Strong written and verbal communication skills. * Ability to adapt to changing technology and learn new equipment systems. * Motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision in challenging environments. * Strong commitment to safety Preferred Qualifications * Field service experience. * Experience working with Komatsu equipment. * Interprovincial Red Seal certification. * Experience with agricultural equipment.
