Position Overview Nfinite Paper is seeking a Nanocoating Technician to help scale our nanofilm deposition technology from prototype to industrial production. You'll operate deposition equipment to produce R&D samples for CPG partners exploring next-gen barrier coatings for paper packaging, support machine maintenance and testing, manage inventory, and prepare sample shipments. This is a hands-on role at the core of our manufacturing and scale-up efforts and ideal for a driven and adaptable individual who enjoys working at a fast-pace. Key Responsibilities Assist with upscaling of a nanofilm deposition process for gas barrier applications, taking it from a pre-industrial prototype to an industrial-scale machine Operate a deposition machine, producing R&D samples for CPG customers and partners, to investigate integration of next-gen barrier coatings into paper packaging lines Maintain detailed and accurate documentation about the work you are doing and your observations Follow safety procedures and defined SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and contribute to updating them as processes evolve. Prepare shipments of samples and paper rolls to partners, including packaging them and organizing logistics Work with compressed gasses and pyrophoric chemicals Perform machine maintenance Qualifications Required Bachelors degree in Engineering or Science. Preferred disciplines include Materials Science, Nanoscience, Chemical Engineering, or Physics 1-3 years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing, lab or pilot plant environment High attention to detail and demonstrated ability to follow procedures meticulously Comfortable working with compressed gasses and pyrophoric chemicals, with strict adherence to safety protocols Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot independently Team player who works well in diverse, cross-functional teams ability to juggle multiple requests/tests Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English Valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle as there will be occasional transport of paper rolls Willingness to travel occasionally to the US and Europe to visit partners and suppliers Legally eligible to work in Canada and able to work on-site in Waterloo, Ontario Nice to Have (Assets) Genuine interest in sustainability and motivation to help solve the single-use plastic crisis Hands-on experience with thin-film deposition techniques Familiarity with nanoscale characterization techniques, such as SEM, XPS, ellipsometry, UV-Vis spectrometry, or FTIR spectroscopy Exposure to CPG industry standards or customer-facing sample/testing workflows Hands on experience with 3D printing Familiarity with Design of Experiments (DOE) Knowledge of fluid dynamics simulations Experience with machine learning, particularly for optimizing process parameters Experience with SOP creation/documentation Familiarity with handling hazardous materials, gas cylinders, or working under safety certifications Preference for a 10am to 6pm schedule Who You Are Driven and proactive: You take ownership, follow through on tasks, and are eager to learn Adaptable: You thrive in a start-up environment where priorities can shift quickly Hands-on learner: You enjoy understanding how machines work and are excited to grow your skills in hardware What We Offer Opportunity to play a key role in scaling a novel manufacturing technology with real environmental impact.
