CNC Optical Technician, AFTERNOON SHIFT Requisition #:42536 Toronto, Ontario About L3HARRIS WESCAM As a subsidiary of L3Harris Technologies and within the Communications & Spectrum Dominance (CSD) Segment, the WESCAM division develops the most advanced optical sensor and targeting systems for global defense and military sectors, national security, search & rescue and airborne law enforcement agencies. From long-range covert surveillance missions to search and rescue operations, our MX-series systems, and the mission systems solutions they produce stabilized high-magnification electro-optical and infrared images from airborne, marine and ground based platforms, enabling our customers to see first and act first. About the Role The Manufacturing Technician- CNC Optics Manufacturing position is responsible for generating, polishing, and turning of optical components (precision lenses) using CNC Optics and Diamond Turning machines with 2, 3, 4, and NC axes equipment. Primary Responsibilities Analyze and interpret complex mechanical and optical schematics, ensuring precise execution of assembly, integration and testing procedures Execute- Grind, polish, edging, turning and troubleshooting of complex optical components following all established manufacturing processes and procedures in alignment with AS9100 standards Diagnose and troubleshoot spherical and Aspheric optical components, including but not limited to visible and IR optics, achieving surface form requirements (PV, RMS, AST), and inspection of optical components to drawing requirements. Investigate and resolve faults by collaborating with senior technicians and engineers, contributing to continuous product development and process improvement Effectively manage multiple priorities, manufacturing testing and measuring and troubleshooting tasks to meet critical project timelines and production goals Engage in cross-functional collaboration, work closely with Operation Engineers, production teams, and management to tackle complex technical challenges and drive innovative solutions Ensuring meticulous documentation, maintaining detailed records of maintenance, test results, troubleshooting efforts and implemented solutions. Including details PM on the manufacturing machines and tools. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, identifying inefficiencies in processes, recommending enhancements, and implementing best practices to optimize performance and workflow efficiency. Required Capabilities Technical Proficiency – Strong ability to read and interpret optical & mechanical drawings and test procedures Optical Expertise – Experience in assembling, configuring, and testing complex opto-mechanical or electro-mechanical systems Troubleshooting & Diagnostics – Skilled in identifying, analyzing and resolving optical and mechanical issues Strong Collaboration & Communication – Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with engineers, production teams and management. Good English communication skills in both written and verbal that translate into working in a team-based environment. Continuous Improvement & Safety Mindset – Abilities to think critically, identify inefficiencies in processes, suggest improvements and be open minded to change. High Standards in quality with attention to detail, Capable of learning and taking on new tasks with an increasing level of responsibility Desired Education and Experiences Requires minimal job knowledge/skills. Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent with 0 to 3 years of prior related experience. Or, Diploma in Photonics or Mechanical Engineering Technology Previous work experience in an ISO 9000/ AS9100 and Lean Manufacturing environment is an asset Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles an asset, but not required Ability to safely handle delicate optical parts and on occasion lift 30 lbs. Ability to work independently and with minimum supervision Must be eligible for registering with Controlled Goods Program of Canada Ability to effectively operate complicated equipment such as Precision Optics and Diamond Turned CNC and associated equipment *This posting is for a current vacancy. In the province of Ontario, Canada, the wage range for this position will be $27-28/HR #LI-BD1
