CATEGORY Mid-level LOCATION Sudbury, ON JOB TYPE Full-time twelve-month contract What You’ll Do MEDATech Engineering Services is looking for a Sudbury-based Field Service Technician to provide hands-on technical support for a MEDATech drill deployment near Chapleau, Ontario. This role sits at the intersection of field service and engineering: you’ll be the person on-site keeping the equipment running, troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and control system issues in real time, while also feeding what you learn in the field back into MEDATech’s engineering team to improve the product. You’ll split your time between the customer site and MEDATech’s Sudbury-area base, consisting of regular travel to Chapleau, Ontario for commissioning, troubleshooting, and scheduled service work. This… Key Responsibilities Field Support – Provide on-site commissioning, troubleshooting, and repair support for MEDATech’s drill and associated systems at the Chapleau-area customer site, including diagnosing and correcting mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and control system failures. Root Cause Analysis – Analyze equipment failures in the field, determine root cause, and implement short- and long-term corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Customer Support – Act as the primary technical point of contact on-site, building strong working relationships with customer operations and maintenance personnel, and communicating equipment performance and issues back to MEDATech. Electrical & Controls Troubleshooting – Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control system logic to diagnose faults; work with PLC/control systems as required. Mechanical & Hydraulic Troubleshooting – Read and interpret mechanical and hydraulic drawings and assembly diagrams; diagnose and repair hydraulic and mechanical systems on drill equipment. Engineering Feedback Loop – Document field issues, failure modes, and equipment performance, and work with MEDATech’s engineering team to drive design improvements and reliability fixes. Reporting – Prepare field service reports, time studies, equipment performance summaries, and technical documentation as required to support the customer relationship and internal engineering review. Parts & Logistics – Identify parts and component needs arising from field repairs, and assist with parts sourcing and installation, provide input for cost estimates for repair and support work. Health & Safety – Strict adherence to MEDATech and client health and safety policies at mining and remote sites. Position Qualifications And Requirements Post-secondary diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field; or, a Certificate of Qualification as a heavy-duty/construction equipment mechanic or millwright with equivalent hands-on field experience Minimum 2–3 years of hands-on field service experience with heavy mobile equipment, drills, or similar mining/construction machinery Ability to read and interpret mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical schematics and assembly drawings Working knowledge of hydraulic systems and electrical/electronic control systems Comfortable working with hand and power tools, and performing hands-on disassembly, reassembly, and commissioning work Valid driver’s license and clean driving record Willingness to travel regularly to the Chapleau-area site, including extended overnight stays as required Willingness to respond to occasional after-hours or weekend calls to support site operations Considered An Asset Experience with drilling equipment specifically (surface or underground) 2D/3D CAD experience (SolidWorks, SolidWorks Electrical, AutoCAD) PLC or control systems experience MOL underground mining site training/orientation modules (Program #770010) The Right Candidate Would Demonstrate Strong troubleshooting instincts and the ability to think through mechanical, electrical, controls and hydraulic problems systematically Comfort working independently on-site with minimal day-to-day supervision, while staying closely connected to the home engineering team Exceptional communication skills — able to translate field issues into clear technical feedback for engineering, and explain solutions clearly to customer personnel Strong attention to detail and accuracy in troubleshooting and documentation Self-motivation and the initiative to see problems through to resolution Flexibility and adaptability, given the remote and variable nature of field deployment work Strong time management skills and the ability to manage competing priorities under pressure Compensation Base salary: $85,000 – $115,000/year, commensurate with experience, plus applicable overtime and travel/site premiums for time spent at the Chapleau-area deployment.
