Job summary

Design, model, build, and commission heavy-duty hydraulic systems for mining equipment, including integrating electro-hydraulic controls and testing system performance. Troubleshoot failures, ensure compliance with mining safety standards, prepare engineering and maintenance documentation, and support maintenance crews during overhauls.

Job details

Job Duties Design heavy-duty hydraulic systems. Create schematics for mining equipment, including drills, excavators, and conveyor drives. Develop mechanical blueprints. Produce detailed 2D layouts and 3D CAD models of machinery components using specialized software. Calculate high-pressure parameters. Determine optimal flow rates, operating pressures, and heat dissipation requirements for deep-mine environments. Specify harsh-environment components. Select specialized seals, hoses, and valves capable of resisting abrasive mining dust and extreme temperatures. Integrate electro-hydraulic controls. Partner with automation teams to combine fluid power systems with remote-control or autonomous mining systems. Build and commission prototypes. Assemble, install, and calibrate new fluid power assemblies before deployment underground or in pits. Conduct rigorous diagnostic testing. Perform cycle-time analysis, pressure-drop testing, and oil analysis to monitor system health. Troubleshoot complex mechanical failures. Rapidly diagnose hydraulic pump cavitation, valve stick, or line ruptures to minimize costly mine downtime. Enforce strict mining safety standards. Ensure all fluid designs comply with Canadian mining regulations and safety frameworks (e.g., CSA, ISO, and provincial mine safety acts). Document engineering packages. Generate exact Bills of Materials (BOM), preventative maintenance schedules, and safety lockout procedures. Collaborate with maintenance crews. Provide technical guidance to millwrights and heavy equipment mechanics during complex system overhauls Compensation $37.04 - $49.63 (hourly) Please keep in mind that this range is the base pay only and does not consider other components that make up the total rewards package for the position.
