Company Description: Pontem Group is seeking a Mechanical Engineer (P.Eng.) to support project teams in the design, review, and coordination of mechanical building systems across a range of project types including residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional developments. This role will involve preparing mechanical engineering solutions related to HVAC, plumbing, hydronic systems, building energy performance, and fire protection integration where applicable. The successful candidate will apply strong technical knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, the BC Building Code, municipal bylaws, ASHRAE standards, and industry best practices to deliver efficient, buildable, and cost-effective design solutions. The ideal candidate with 4+ years of consulting experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams while receiving mentorship from senior engineers. General Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Develop mechanical system designs, including HVAC, plumbing, hydronic heating/cooling, and ventilation systems. Prepare mechanical drawings, specifications, equipment schedules, and load calculations. Review architectural, structural, and electrical drawings to ensure coordinated and compliant mechanical design. Conduct field reviews of mechanical installations for compliance with design intent, BC Building Code, ASHRAE standards, and municipal requirements. Perform mechanical load calculations, ventilation assessments, and energy performance evaluations. Coordinate with architects, mechanical sub-consultants, electrical engineers, and other design team members. Prepare technical reports, design briefs, and engineering memos. Liaise with clients, contractors, and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs) regarding project coordination and mechanical system approvals. Prepare proposals, scopes of work, and cost estimates. Manage small to medium-sized projects while ensuring timely delivery and quality control. Support sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives, including low-carbon mechanical systems and energy code compliance. Qualifications: Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering. Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) is required. 4+ years of experience in the building construction or mechanical engineering consulting industry preferred. Proficient with mechanical design software (e.g., HAP, Trace 700, energy modeling tools). Competent with AutoCAD; experience with Revit is an asset. Class 5 driver’s license required. Strong communication and coordination skills. Competent in Microsoft Word and Excel. Experience with Bluebeam is preferred but not mandatory.
