The Strategic Planning Division provides oversight and a coordination role with government departments and entities, providing strategic advice on federal and provincial infrastructure funding programs for provincial priorities.This is an opportunity to use your leadership skills and technical expertise in a new role within the Department that will support the Division's strategic project planning to address NS infrastructure needs.About Our OpportunityAs the Senior Engineer under the general direction of the Director, Federal Infrastructure Programs and Stakeholder Engagement, you are a departmental expert on climate resilient infrastructure and engineering criteria relating to federal infrastructure funding programs and the strategic coordination of provincial, municipal and interprovincial infrastructure capital plans and projects. As a seasoned professional engineer, you can provide advice and expertise in other areas including municipal and highway engineering and project management.The position assists senior management in the development of provincial infrastructure planning and policy development by identifying strategic opportunities to align and coordinate provincial infrastructure planning and requirements with those of municipalities and other provinces.We invite you to consider this opportunity to join a diverse, energetic and committed team at the Department of Public Works.Primary Accountabilities As the Senior Engineer, you will establish and maintain relationships with other government departments and municipalities to understand and assess their infrastructure needs and seek opportunities to align them with provincial undertakings for more effective and efficient project outcomes and improved municipal and provincial infrastructure. You will provide subject matter expertise on infrastructure needs and federal infrastructure programs with an emphasis on climate change resiliency. You will provide technical engineering input into business cases required to leverage federal funding for provincial infrastructure needs, ensuring that engineering-based criteria is met and aligns with government strategic priorities. You will also manage and/or advise on major provincial and multi-partner strategic infrastructure projects and provide advice on emerging issues and trends that could potentially affect provincial infrastructure.Qualifications and ExperienceYou must hold a Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Environmental or Agricultural Engineering and have at least 6 years of professional engineering experience in construction and rehabilitation infrastructure projects in an increasing leadership role. You must be a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) in good standing or eligible for registration with Engineers Nova Scotia.You have demonstrated project management experience with excellent interpersonal and communications skills. You have experience in networking and engaging a variety of stakeholders forming collaborative and strategic relationships. You possess advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage and resolve complex and emerging issues and identify innovative solutions.Assets for this role include knowledge of federal and provincial regulations, standards and procedures, and an understanding of the unique challenges facing rural and urban communities in NS.In addition to the above, you are a highly organized individual who is focused on continuously improving quality and has a solution-focused approach.
