What You'll Do Reporting to the Commissioning Manager, the Senior Commissioning Technologist is responsible for commissioning, testing and maintaining primary and secondary power equipment in the field. This includes maintaining medium-to-high-voltage substation power delivery equipment such as breakers, switchgears, circuit breakers, relays and transformers. The Senior Commissioning Technologist role also involves mentoring and educating junior technologists including reading and interpreting prints, risk management strategies and promoting industry best practices. The Senior Commissioning Technologist also plays a leading role in setting up and operating both standard and specialized test equipment to diagnose and analyze the performance of power delivery equipment on-site. Key Responsibilities The responsibilities include, but may not be limited to: Promote and maintain a strong safety culture alongside all members of the construction crew Commission and test high voltage equipment such as Circuit breakers, Transformers, manual and motor operated switches, Current Transformers, Voltage Transformers, Capacitor Banks and circuit switchers. Commission protection and control relays such as SEL, GE, Siemens and ABB. Commission control circuits for protection, indication and monitoring systems. Perform acceptance and maintenance testing on electrical equipment ranging from 600v to 500kV Installation, commissioning and maintenance of protection and control equipment, including SCADA in medium to high-voltage transmission substations Work with protection schemes such as differential, distance, line protections, transformer protections and overcurrent protections Interpret electrical drawings and schematics, analyze test results, and recommend corrective actions Work with high voltage equipment such as Circuit breakers, transformers, switches and control circuits for protection, indication and monitoring systems Supervise, mentor and train junior technicians Be able to work with various types of manufacturer’s test equipment: Omicron CMC356, CT analyzer, Cibano, CPC100, Votano, Testrano (remove the comma after Omicron as they are all Omicron devices). Doble M4100, SFRA Megger megohmmeter and 10A Ductor Broman 100A Ductor Megger TTR Dilo and SMC Gas Analyzers VLF and AC Hi Pots Additional Information This position is designated as safety-sensitive making employment contingent upon the successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, as well as criminal and general background checks. Schedule & Compensation Schedule rotations include 7 days on / 7 days off or 7 days on / 14 days off, etc. Standard workdays are 10 hours (7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.) Overtime paid at time and a half after 10 hours per day and 40 hours per week Out-of-town work includes either all-inclusive camp accommodations or LOA and individual accommodations (project dependent) What We're Looking For Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited post-secondary institution or Degree in Electrical Engineering Minimum of 4+ years of experience in Field Testing and Commissioning Hands-on experience in substations (600V to 500kV) required Familiar with power transformers, high voltage switches, breakers, CT’s and PT’s, NGR, and Capbank Experience with testing software is considered an asset (Omicron Test Universe, Doble M4000, AcSELerator, Siemens Digsi, GE Enervista) Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Strong commitment to safety, environmental, and health practices Valid Class 5 driver’s license required Must have the ability to work in adverse weather conditions Willing to travel and work out of town and on rotational schedules Benefits Competitive compensation with weekly pay periods Overtime opportunities (project dependent) Generous paid time off RRSP-DPSP employer matching, increasing with years of service Comprehensive benefits package (medical, dental, vision, and disability) Company-paid safety training Annual PPE allowance provided for field-based employees (post-probation) Out-of-town work includes either all-inclusive camp accommodations or LOA and individual accommodations (project dependent) Travel time to and from site will be paid at base rate, and travel provided by employer (project dependent) Ongoing training, development, and career advancement opportunities Employee Assistance Program (confidential counselling support) Employee Referral Bonus Program Why Rising Edge Group?
