The Relief Senior Facility Maintenance Technician supports the Facility Management Department by performing hands-on maintenance, repairs, inspections, and preventative maintenance activities across both residential and commercial properties. This role requires a dependable, adaptable, and service-oriented individual with strong technical abilities, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team. The successful candidate plays a key role in ensuring safe, functional, and well-maintained environments for residents, tenants, employees, and community stakeholders. Role and Responsibilities Understand and practice all RHA Policies and Procedures, practices and operational protocols, including purpose statements, ethical standards and guidelines, abuse and medical protocols, Alberta Accommodation Standards, Alberta Health Services standards, Municipal Fire Standards, Service Quality Policy and Management System, Occupational Health & Safety Standards and HSMS, and Creating Excellence Together (CET) Standards and Accreditation. Adhere to RHA Code of Ethics. Demonstrate professional conduct and appearance befitting a representative of RHA, including strong attendance, punctuality, accountability, and conflict resolution skills. Work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. Promote safe environments by regularly identifying, reporting, and addressing hazards related to the maintenance, design, and function of physical spaces. Maintain a high level of awareness and vigilance throughout assigned shifts. Possess and maintain the physical capabilities required to safely perform the duties of the position, including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, and operating tools and equipment. Be available to work in various RHA locations and program areas as operational needs require. Specific Responsibilities Perform routine, preventative, and corrective maintenance in residential and commercial facilities. Conduct regular building inspections and identify maintenance concerns, safety hazards, deficiencies, and repair requirements. Complete general maintenance and repair tasks, including basic electrical, plumbing, drywall, painting, carpentry, woodworking, and grounds maintenance. Ensure building assets are maintained safely, efficiently, and in a timely manner. Respond to maintenance requests in a professional, customer-focused, and timely manner. Receive daily work assignments and direction from supervisors and verify completion of work before leaving the worksite. Troubleshoot maintenance issues and determine effective repair solutions. Maintain accurate records related to inspections, repairs, preventative maintenance activities, and completed work orders. Ensure compliance with all applicable legislation, regulations, bylaws, safety requirements, and industry standards. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times. Communicate professionally and respectfully with residents, tenants, staff, contractors, vendors, and community stakeholders. Assist with coordinating and supporting contractors and external service providers as required. Report maintenance concerns, safety issues, and operational risks to supervisors in a timely manner. Recommend improvements to maintenance processes, preventative maintenance programs, and facility operations. Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities. Complete mandatory training and maintain required certifications. Support emergency maintenance situations and facility-related operational needs as required. Travel between residential and commercial properties as needed. Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor, Program Manager, Director, or designate. Qualifications and Education Requirements Post-secondary education in a related trade, building maintenance, facilities management, or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred. Demonstrated competency in a wide range of building maintenance and repair skills. Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and problem-solving abilities. Completion of mandatory training courses and designated RHA training requirements. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines. Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team. Proven reliability, professionalism, and strong attendance record. Ability to work various shift schedules and adapt to changing operational requirements. Valid Class 5 Driver's License with a clean driving abstract. Reliable access to a personal vehicle for travel between work locations. Preferred Skills Experience performing maintenance in residential, commercial, supportive living, or community-based environments. Working knowledge of building systems, preventative maintenance programs, and safety standards. Strong computer skills, including the ability to maintain records and complete documentation electronically. Demonstrated willingness to learn new concepts and continuously improve technical skills. Positive attitude, strong customer service focus, and ability to provide and receive constructive feedback. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality workmanship. Working Conditions Flexible relief-based schedule, including varying shifts based on operational requirements. Frequent physical activity, including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and moving tools, equipment, and materials. Extended periods of standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing. Work performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions. Travel between residential and commercial properties may be required.
