Job Overview Job Title: Surface Prep Technician Department: Production Classification: In Line Reports to: Production Manager/Supervisor Plant: 7 Direct Reports: None Number of Vacancies: 7 Shift: Mon-Fri 6:30am-3pm Duties Sand raw carbon fiber parts using a dual-action sander or by hand, maintaining accuracy to avoid burning the weave or distorting body lines. Mask parts using automotive painter's tape and masking paper, ensuring standards are met for coverage and adhesion. Inspect parts for defects such as pinholes or porosity; repair defects using body filler to maintain part quality. Check and refine edges to ensure uniformity, applying body filler when necessary for correction. Accurately mix body filler with hardener in correct ratios to ensure consistent application and curing. Utilize both waterborne and solvent-based cleaners as necessary. Conduct thorough inspections pre- and post-sanding to confirm uniformity and adherence to preparation standards. Review all parts before and after masking to confirm readiness for painting. Consistently use appropriate PPE for all sanding and preparation tasks. Follow established health and safety protocols in handling tools, chemicals, and sanding equipment. Other duties as assigned Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Basic understanding of manufacturing procedures. Ability to lift moderate to heavy objects and work on feet for extended periods. Working Conditions Industrial environment with exposure to paint, solvents, and machinery noise.
