Job summary

SMS Equipment is expanding our underground operations, and we’re hiring a Journeyperson, Heavy Equipment Technician for Edmonton, AB. This role focuses on component rebuilds and rockdrill diagnostics in a clean, well-equipped shop environment. Base Wage: $54.02 per hour Location: Edmonton, AB Schedule: 5x2 (Monday to Friday). What You’ll Do * Perform full overhauls, diagnostics, and repairs on underground drifters—primarily Montabert and will also work with Sandvik and Epiroc. * Use measuring tools and precision equipment to assess wear, tolerances, and overall equipment condition. * Diagnose malfunctions using proper testing equipment and provide recommendations based on repair needs. * Support underground operations by troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on mobile and stationary mining equipment. * Maintain detailed service reports, timecards, and warranty documentation. * Travel to customer sites as needed. * Support continuous improvement by keeping work areas clean, organized, and ready for the next task. What You Bring The successful candidate will have a Heavy Equipment Technician Journeyperson certificate and experience working with underground mining equipment. Equivalent combinations of education and shop-based experience may be considered. Other requirements include: * Diagnostic skills in hydraulic, electronic, mechanical, and electrical systems. * Ability to use precise measuring equipment. * Strong awareness and attitude towards workplace health and safety, including understanding and complying with all requirements. * This role may involve lifting up to 50 lbs and requires being comfortable working in confined spaces. * Experience with Montabert drifters is an asset. * Experience with bolters and jumbos is an asset.
