Job summary
Position Summary: The Quality Assurance Technician, reporting to the Senior Manager, Quality Assurance, supports the maintenance and continuous improvement of the facility’s Quality Assurance, HACCP, prerequisite, and BRC programs. The position is responsible for conducting audits, monitoring, verification and validation activities, analytical testing, environmental and product sampling, data management, and recordkeeping. The Quality Assurance Technician also assists with procedure and form development, associate training, facility and record verifications, and other quality-related projects as required. All duties must be performed in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures, protocols, and food safety and quality requirements. Key Accountabilities: Perform water activity analysis and other analytical testing Conduct environmental, water, microbiological, chemical lean and Pre-op swabs Perform in-process, finished product, shelf-life, and carcass swabs Conduct instrument calibration and verification, including scales and thermometers Monitor and verify Critical Control Points (CCPs), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), prerequisite programs, and other quality and food safety requirements Inspect and evaluate product quality and conformity throughout the manufacturing process, including quality audits of meat products Maintain knowledge of and support compliance with HACCP plans, CCPs, Standard Operating Procedures, prerequisite programs, and associated records Assist with the annual review and reassessment of HACCP and food safety programs Maintain accurate monitoring, verification, testing, and quality records and enter results into electronic databases and spreadsheets Complete Chain of Custody (CoC) documentation for samples submitted for internal or external testing Analyze test results and trends and provide data and feedback to support root cause analysis and corrective actions Provide quality and food safety training to employees across production, supervision, maintenance, engineering, shipping, and other departments Provide coverage for the Microbiology Laboratory when required Participate in assigned quality, food safety, productivity, and continuous improvement projects Requirements: Certificate, diploma, or degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Technical Science, or a related discipline Minimum 1 year of relevant experience in the food manufacturing or food processing industry Strong knowledge of HACCP, GMP, food safety principles, quality systems, and regulatory requirements, including BRC standards Basic understanding of government regulations related to meat processing Knowledge of food manufacturing practices and quality assurance procedures Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills Ability to manage multiple priorities, multitask, work independently, and effectively manage time Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint Strong verbal and written English communication skills, including the ability to conduct training, prepare reports, present findings, and communicate with employees and management Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across all functional departments and levels of the organization Ability to participate in audits and represent the company professionally Ability and willingness to work flexible hours as required Hiring Range: Hiring Range: CAD $51,158 - $63,948 annually Bonus: This position is eligible for an annual bonus up to 5% of base salary subject to the plan terms and conditions. Please note that the expected hiring range provided is derived from a group of like roles within Sofina. The final offer amount for this role will be dependent on geographical region, applicable experience, skillset of the candidate and internal equity. This position is currently an active vacancy. Requirements
