Job summary

Duties & Responsibilities Aids Technical Specialist, Technologist, Operations Leader and/or Biochemists to perform tasks Willing to work within and outside the laboratory to support POC and nursing requests Provide support for the validation, implementation, operation and maintenance of the chemistry instrumentation Specimen loading and unloading and organization of patient specimens Tabulate, enter data, and prepare reports Experience with collection of patient specimens using methods such as macroduct (for sweat chloride testing), phlebotomy, capillary etc. is an asset Registers specimens and verifies for entry into the LIS system. Enters data for bar code generation. Performs pre-analytical procedures (e.g., centrifugation, aliquot, grind renal stones, prepare solutions, etc.) Sorts, allocates and delivers specimens to work stations, and loads onto instruments as appropriate. Receives, unpacks, sorts and manual storage of specimens and reagents. Prepares specimens for send-out to external clients. Participates in performing basic QC and inventory management Printing and distribution of laboratory reports. Responds to all customer telephone inquiries. Rotates through different work areas as required. Other duties as required. Qualifications Successful completion of a recognized Laboratory Assistant/Technician Program or equivalent experience required. OSMT/MLPAO or CSMLS certification required. Transportation of Dangerous Goods certification an asset. Must demonstrate ability to work independently and as a team to prioritize workload in a fast paced environment. Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills to answer questions from external clients or clinicians. Must be able to work cooperatively and constructively with other team members. Experience with Excel worksheets and data entry Computer and software experience/skills Must understand and be committed to the mission and values of St Michael's Hospital Must be punctual and have an excellent attendance record. HOURS OF WORK: Shifts for this position will be scheduled to work rotating shifts (days, evenings, nights) weekends and statutory holidays as required.
