Mechanical Maintenance Technician St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Schools invites applications for a temporary full-time Mechanical Maintenance Technician. This position will begin September 1, 2026, to December 22, 2026, with the possibility of an extension. St. Thomas Aquinas Roman (STAR) Catholic Schools is a regional separate school division in Central Alberta, operating schools in Lacombe, Ponoka, Wetaskiwin, Drayton Valley, Beaumont, and Leduc. Reporting to the Director of Facilities, the Mechanical Maintenance Technician assists with maintaining and managing all school division equipment. The Mechanical Maintenance Technician must be able to troubleshoot, solve problems and repair equipment under tight timelines as necessary. PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (but Not Limited To) Coordinate repairs of equipment/buildings (portable and fixed). Prioritizes tasks to ensure equipment is available in areas that have the greatest impact on student needs. Maintains equipment to provide better performance, availability and safety. Assists in set-up of special projects/events as requested. Inspecting and maintaining fire alarm system, fire extinguishers, detectors, emergency lighting/generator and security access cameras. Performs preventative maintenance as scheduled. Assists IT by preparing the area for scheduled installs of technical equipment Installs white boards and bulletin boards. Makes school repairs including drywalling, paint touch ups, flooring, walls, fixtures and minor construction Checking roofs, gutters, drains, walls and repairing doors/windows. Coordinates repair of plumbing including the replacement of taps, toilets, sinks and completes installs as well as electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures. Maintaining and servicing boilers, heating systems, HVAC, furnaces, rooftop units, AHU, AC, compressors, pneumatic controls, vents to ensure proper heating and ventilation. Repairs any emergent task to ensure schools run as needed Responds to alarm call outs from schools as required Monitors and maintains the BMS (Building Maintenance System) for all boilers Regularly visit designated schools for any necessary work order processing and to plan necessary action with Administrators and Contractors Monitors parking lot maintenance, snow removal, landscaping and playground equipment. Facilitate major renovations and projects, periodical equipment servicing, roofing inspections & repairs. The successful candidate will have experience in the mechanical/maintenance field and a clean driver's abstract. A 5th Class Power Engineer and/or a trade ticket is considered an asset but not mandatory.
