Role Description The Molecular Technician is a full-time, on-site position based in Saskatoon, SK. This role involves performing routine molecular biology experiments such as DNA/RNA extraction, PCR/qPCR, gel electrophoresis, and basic cloning under the guidance of senior scientists. The Molecular Technician will prepare reagents and buffers, maintain accurate laboratory records, and assist with data collection, analysis, and documentation. Daily responsibilities include operating and maintaining laboratory equipment, following standard operating procedures, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. The role also supports sample organization, inventory management, and collaboration with research and breeding teams to advance TerraVerti’s genetic and plant-based innovation projects. Qualifications Foundational molecular biology competencies, including experience with DNA/RNA extraction, PCR/qPCR, gel electrophoresis, and related techniques. Laboratory operations skills, such as reagent preparation, equipment maintenance, sample handling, and adherence to standard operating procedures. Data and documentation abilities, including accurate record-keeping, basic data analysis, and clear reporting of experimental results. Safety and quality focus, with knowledge of laboratory safety practices, biosafety guidelines, and quality control principles. Collaborative and communication skills, including the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate clearly in written and verbal form. Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Plant Science, Genetics, or a closely related field. Experience in plant molecular biology, seed or crop research, or agricultural biotechnology is considered an asset. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced research environment.
