Dartmouth, NS Building Automation Field Technician Cahill Technical Services (CTS), a division of The Cahill Group, is seeking a Building Automation Field Technician to join our team in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. The successful candidate will have experience with building automation system start-up, commissioning, troubleshooting, and field service across commercial, industrial, or building applications. This position is well suited to a technician with a strong background in instrumentation, controls, or building automation who is interested in applying their technical expertise to building systems, energy infrastructure, and complex control environments. Location: Dartmouth, NS (Hybrid) Travel: Regular business travel (less than 10%) Training & Development: Ongoing technical and professional development opportunities What You'll Do Program, configure, commission, and troubleshoot building automation and control systems Configure I/O, control logic, and communication networks. Integrate building automation systems with third-party equipment, vendor systems, monitoring platforms, and supervisory systems. Calibrate and test sensors, transmitters, and other field devices. Perform scheduled service visits and prepare detailed service reports for clients. Support the commissioning, testing, and verification of new projects and installations. Diagnose and resolve control system, instrumentation, and communication issues. Assist with control panel assembly, design reviews, wiring verification, and field installations. Collaborate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and field teams to ensure successful project delivery. Participate in project turnover, documentation, and client training. Review technical drawings, specifications, and functional sequences for accuracy and constructability. Develop skills in AutoCAD and Bluebeam to support effective design and seamless field installation. Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders to achieve cohesive system integration throughout all phases of a project. Support the preparation of project cost estimates and quotations for clients. What We're Looking For Diploma in Instrumentation, Electrical, HVAC, or Mechanical Engineering Technology, or equivalent relevant experience. 2+ years of experience in programming, building automation, controls, instrumentation, or field-level controls. Candidates with more extensive experience are encouraged to apply. Experience with Siemens or Distech control systems is considered an asset. Experience interpreting and implementing technical drawings, control schematics, and functional sequences. Experience with building automation system integration is considered an asset. Knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, and MPTS networks is considered an asset. Strong understanding of electrical systems, instrumentation, and control theory. Experience with VFD programming is considered an asset. Experience with gas detection systems and sensors is considered an asset. Proficiency with Microsoft Office; AutoCAD experience is considered an asset. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
