Are you a natural problem-solver with a knack for mechanical and electrical systems? We are looking for an Apprentice Appliance Service Technician to join our team. This position is a formal pathway to obtaining your Red Seal Endorsement (RSE), a credential that certifies your skills across Canada. As an apprentice, you will work under the guidance of a Red Seal Journeyperson to master the installation, diagnosis, and repair of residential and commercial appliances. You will gain the hands-on hours required to challenge the Interprovincial Red Seal Exam while working with the latest smart-home technologies and energy-efficient systems. Core Responsibilities In accordance with the Red Seal Occupational Standard (RSOS), you will develop proficiency in the following areas: Safety & Professionalism: Adhere to provincial safety regulations, including lockout/tagout procedures and safe handling of refrigerants. Maintain a professional demeanor while working in customers' homes. Diagnostics: Assist in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and electronic failures using multi-meters, leak detectors, and manufacturer-specific software. System Repairs: Learn to repair and replace components in laundry equipment (washers/dryers), kitchen appliances (ranges, ovens, dishwashers), and specialized systems like microwaves and trash compactors. Refrigeration Systems: Under supervision, recover refrigerants, evacuate systems, and recharge units in refrigerators and freezers (compliant with environmental regulations). Water & Gas Connections: Assist in the safe installation and repair of water intake lines, drainage systems, and gas-fired appliance components. Administrative Tasks: Document parts used, maintain inventory on the service vehicle, and ensure your Apprentice Logbook is updated and signed off regularly. Qualifications & Requirements Apprenticeship Status: Must be registered (or eligible for registration) with your provincial/territorial apprenticeship board. Technical Aptitude: Basic understanding of electricity ($V = I \cdot R$) and mechanical assemblies. Physical Capability: Ability to move heavy appliances using specialized dollies and work in confined spaces (under counters, in laundry closets). Communication: Strong verbal and written English skills for interacting with customers and completing service reports. Driver’s License: Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving record is mandatory. Tool Kit: Willingness to invest in basic hand tools and specialized testing equipment over time. We support our apprentices through: Supervised Hours: Guaranteed mentorship to ensure your on-the-job training requirements are met. Exam Prep: Access to technical manuals and mentorship to help you prepare for your Interprovincial exam. Mobility: Once certified, your RSE status allows you to work anywhere in Canada without further examination. Salary: 28 - 30 CAD Per hour
