Job summary
Our client, a major resource development organization is seeking an experienced LEAD MECHANICAL ENGINEER to provide technical leadership for the design and execution of a major mining and mineral processing project in British Columbia. This role will lead mechanical engineering activities across project development, detailed design, procurement, construction, and commissioning while coordinating consultants, vendors, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring technical quality, regulatory compliance, constructability, and efficient project delivery. Work Arrangement & Travel Requirements Vancouver office-based role. Occasional travel to project sites will be required to support construction and package delivery activities. Future site rotation opportunities may be available during project execution phases. Collaboration with external engineering service providers and project partners will be required to support effective interface management. Key Responsibilities Lead the execution of mechanical engineering work packages delivered by internal teams, engineering consultants, and equipment vendors. Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentoring to engineers, designers, consultants, and project stakeholders. Manage engineering consultants through scope development, deliverable planning, technical reviews, comment resolution, and schedule management. Review and approve design criteria, specifications, datasheets, calculations, drawings, layouts, technical reports, and vendor documentation. Lead development and execution of engineering design packages and field execution work packages. Support mechanical equipment procurement through requisitions, bid evaluations, vendor reviews, technical clarifications, and recommendation development. Oversee the design and integration of mineral processing and materials handling systems, including pumps, piping, conveyors, feeders, crushers, screens, mills, cyclones, tanks, valves, and associated equipment. Coordinate interfaces between process, civil, structural, electrical, instrumentation, procurement, construction, commissioning, operations, and maintenance teams. Facilitate technical reviews, risk assessments, constructability reviews, operability workshops, and design review sessions. Identify technical risks, design challenges, and execution constraints, and develop practical mitigation strategies. Support construction, commissioning, startup, and project handover activities through field engineering support, inspections, technical queries, and punch-list resolution. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with EGBC or eligible for registration. Minimum 12-15 years of progressive experience within mining, mineral processing, materials handling, heavy industrial, or major capital project environments. Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary engineering deliverables and managing engineering consultants or external service providers. Strong background in mechanical systems, equipment package delivery, and technical procurement. Experience reviewing and approving engineering specifications, datasheets, calculations, technical reports, and vendor documentation. Knowledge of applicable Canadian engineering codes, standards, and regulatory requirements. Strong communication, leadership, stakeholder management, and decision-making skills. Preferred Experience Mineral processing plant design and execution experience. Materials handling systems including conveyors, feeders, transfer chutes, stockpiles, and bulk material movement systems. Equipment such as crushers, grinding mills, screens, cyclones, pumps, slurry piping systems, and related processing infrastructure. EPCM, owner-side project, or large capital project experience. Construction, commissioning, and operational readiness experience. Experience supporting projects through design, procurement, construction, startup, and handover phases.
