Description The School of Creative and Performing Arts in the Faculty of Arts invites applications for a Dance Lighting Designer / Technician position. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 8 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension. The School of Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA) seeks an experienced lighting designer to design and work on the 2026-2027 series of Dance productions "Lighting Design" includes but is not limited to: the selection of the direction, colour and intensity of light to be used int eh productions and the placement and duration of all light cues and effects to be used in the productions. This is a part-time, fixed term position at the Tech 2 level, with the qualified applicant assisting with the following productions: TransFoRM (November 2026) Dance ProSeries (February 2027) MainStage Dance (March 2027) Dance@Night (April 2027) The number of hours required for each production varies, averaging between 60 and 65 hours per production. Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to): To design the lighting to correspond with the needs and budgets of the productions. To coordinate and direct the realization of the lighting in direct communication with the Lead Technician, Production Lead, or with any other agent as appointed by the SCPA. To provide: a hanging plot drawn to scale showing type and position of all luminaires, luminaire and hook-up schedules, full equipment list, additional schedules, specifications and working drawings for colour media, special effects, and other items necessary for realization of the Lighting. To maximize the use of the inventory of equipment and colour provided by the Lead Technician. Any additional equipment or colour is to be approved in advance by the Production Lead. To attend rehearsals as necessary and at least one run-through prior to the first cueing session. To supervise the electrical set-up, to direct the focus of all luminaires, and their related block-up. To set and record the lighting cues and to supervise the execution and operation of the Lighting during technical rehearsals. To be available for consultation until the Official Opening of the production. Qualifications / Requirements: Minimum of 5 years of professional lighting design experience, with 8-10 years preferred. Minimum of 5 years of professional lighting operations experience, with 8-10 years preferred. Experience in designing lights for professional dance works. Experience working with standards outside of North America, e.g., Europe, and translating them to North American contexts, for visiting choreographers. Experience in Technical Direction. Experience working in post-secondary institutions and working with students. Experience in developing interactive lighting systems, technically and artistically.
