Position Summary Kamloops Airport has openings for Airport Technician 3 (APT3). Reporting to the Manager of Facilities and Emergency Services, the successful candidates will join the airport maintenance and emergency response team and work a rotational shift schedule supporting the airport's 24/7 operation. This is a regular, full-time unionized position governed by a Collective Agreement. The current hourly rate is $45.30. As a member of the Airport Operations team, the APT3 performs a broad range of maintenance, operational, and emergency response duties that support the safe, secure, and efficient operation of the airport. This safety-sensitive position may require responding to emergencies and performing safety-critical duties in all weather conditions and at any time during a scheduled shift. Key Responsibilities• Provide corrective and preventive maintenance for heavy-duty vehicles and equipment, including mechanical repairs and overhauls, through established maintenance programs, inspection schedules, and servicing cycles.• Perform maintenance on airport facilities, infrastructure, and equipment through established inspection and maintenance programs to ensure regulatory compliance and operational reliability.• Successfully complete and maintain all training and certification requirements associated with CARS 303 and 323 for Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) services.• Participate as an active member of the airport's emergency response team and program.• Operate a variety of mobile equipment, including heavy machinery.• Consistently follow workplace health and safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices.• Perform other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the position as assigned. Qualifications & ExperienceSecondary school certificate or equivalent.Minimum five (5) years of experience in an airport operations, facilities maintenance, heavy equipment, public works, or industrial environment.Red Seal Heavy Duty Equipment Technician certification required.Valid Class 5 driver's licence with Air Brake Endorsement.Restricted Operator Certificate with Aeronautical Qualification (ROC-A) and Airside Vehicle Operator's Permit (AVOP), or the ability to obtain and maintain both.Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL) and Conservation and Outdoor Recreation Education (CORE) certification, or the ability to obtain and maintain both.Ability to meet all medical, physical, cognitive, and other requirements of the APT3 position. Skills & CapabilitiesKnowledge of emergency response procedures and experience responding to operational, safety, weather-related, or other emergency incidents.Knowledge of preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance practices for facilities, equipment, and infrastructure.Knowledge of summer and winter pavement, grounds, and turf maintenance practices.Ability to safely operate, inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot a variety of airport maintenance vehicles, equipment, and systems.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Ability to prioritize work, respond effectively to changing operational requirements, and work independently or as part of a team.Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence. In addition, employees will receive extensive training and ongoing professional development related to airport and aircraft emergency response. This includes emergency preparedness, aircraft rescue and firefighting operations, emergency vehicle operations, incident command principles, hazardous materials response, and emergency medical response. Employees are expected to maintain required certifications and participate in ongoing training exercises to ensure operational readiness and compliance with airport standards.
