Job summary

Senior Architectural TechnologistAbout the Role We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Architectural Technologist to lead Construction Administration on our most complex projects. This is a senior technical leadership role built around three priorities: driving CA from issue-for-construction through to project close-out, hands-on construction detailing and mentoring junior staff in the craft, and acting as the final quality gate on drawing sets at IFC stage. This is a role for a proven technologist who has already mastered production and is now ready to be the person contractors, consultants, and Project Architects turn to when a project moves from paper to site — and who takes pride in raising the technical standard of the people around them. What You'll Do — Billable Primary Responsibilities1. Construction Administration (Primary) Act as the senior technical lead for Construction Administration across assigned projects, from issuance of IFC drawings through to substantial completion and close-out Respond to and resolve RFIs, field issues, and contractor questions with authoritative, code-compliant, buildable direction Review shop drawings, submittals, and sample sets for compliance with design intent, building codes, and construction documents Lead site visits and field reviews, identifying constructability issues and discrepancies between the model/drawings and site conditions Coordinate directly with contractors, sub-consultants, and authorities having jurisdiction to resolve construction-phase issues efficiently Support Project Architects in managing change orders, supplemental instructions, and contract administration documentation Maintain a clear audit trail of CA decisions, ensuring the design record stays accurate through construction Work with and mentor a CA "assistant in training" on interiors scope of projects, building their skills toward independent CA capability 2. Construction Detailing Spend a portion of time personally drafting construction details, applying direct CA and field experience to produce accurate, buildable detailing Mentor junior and mid-level technologists in construction detailing — assembly logic, code-driven detailing, and buildability Review and redline junior staff's detail work, using it as a teaching opportunity rather than just a correction pass Share CA and field experience back into the studio, helping junior staff understand how their detailing decisions play out on site Help build junior staff's confidence and technical judgment so they can eventually take on CA responsibilities themselves 3. Drawing Set Review at Final IFC Stage Conduct the final technical review of drawing sets before Issue for Construction, acting as the last line of quality control Verify accuracy, completeness, and internal consistency across all disciplines and sheets, catching conflicts before they reach the field Confirm the drawing set reflects current code requirements, building science principles, and DMA production standards Flag and resolve outstanding coordination issues with sub-consultants prior to issuance Provide clear, actionable feedback to production teams so recurring issues are corrected upstream, not just at the IFC gate Non-Billable Responsibilities Work with the BIM Manager and Studio Manager to feed CA and IFC-review findings back into DMA+id production standards, closing the loop between site issues and studio-wide practice Contribute to a studio-wide log of recurring CA/field issues and detailing errors to inform training priorities and standards updates Support Partners and the Studio Manager in identifying resourcing needs for CA coverage across active projects What We're Looking For Extensive senior-level experience as an Architectural Technologist (typically 10+ years), with substantial hands-on Construction Administration experience on complex projects Deep, current expertise in building codes, building science, and construction processes, with a proven ability to make sound judgment calls in the field under time pressure Strong track record reviewing drawing sets for accuracy and coordination at IFC stage — comfortable being the final sign-off before issuance Proven experience mentoring junior staff, particularly in construction detailing and buildability Extensive experience with LOD 500 level documentation and its translation into constructable detail Proficient in CAD, with no Revit modeling requirement for this role Adept with ACC (Autodesk Construction Cloud) and Bluebeam for CA workflows, submittal/RFI tracking, and markup Excellent coordination and communication skills, confident engaging directly with contractors, sub-consultants, and authorities having jurisdiction Highly self-motivated, decisive, and comfortable being the point of escalation when problems arise on site or at final review Meticulous, detail-oriented, and uncompromising on quality and accuracy Why Join Us? This role offers a senior technologist the chance to own the parts of the project that matter most once design is complete — keeping construction on track, protecting drawing quality at the final gate, and shaping the next generation of technologists through hands-on mentorship in construction detailing
