The Opportunity
McElhanney is seeking a bright and vibrant individual to fill the role of a
Building Structural Technologist and be a part of our Kitimat team (remotely)! In this role, you will work closely with our structural engineers in the Northern Region and collaborate with technicians and engineers in other McElhanney offices across British Columbia and Alberta. The successful candidate can be based in any city center in British Columbia or Alberta with a McElhanney office, and can work on-site, remote or a combination of both, contributing to a wide range of projects and collaborating with our talented engineering professionals.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Detailed design and drafting of steel, concrete, wood and masonry structures including connections and reinforcement details for wide variety of structural engineering projects, including buildings and civil structures.
  • Carrying out field reviews and site supervision.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines both internally and externally.
  • Project management experience is not required but would be an asset.
  • Assisting in improving AutoCAD & Revit standards for structural drafting.
  • Assisting with proposal preparation.
  • Mentorship of junior staff.

What You’ll Bring
  • Diploma of Technology or Certificate from a nationally accredited program or equivalent.
  • 5 or more years’ experience in structural design and drafting.
  • Registration as a CTech or AScT with ASTTBC, or eligibility to be registered is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Revit & AutoCAD. Preference is given to candidates with Revit experience.
  • Experience with national and provincial building codes, and standards for steel (CAN/CSA-S16), concrete (CAN/CSA-A23.3), wood (CAN/CSA-O86) and masonry (CAN/CSA-S304).
  • Attention to detail and drive for excellence.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills as well as a positive, team-orientated attitude.
  • Flexibility to manage changing priorities on short notice.

This role is designated as a safety sensitive position.
