SAIT’s Continuing Education and Professional Studies (CEPS) focuses on non-credit programs supporting corporate training, the individual learner and international projects. We create courses and programs for life-long learning with careers at our core. Our courses range from exploring general interests to up-skilling for career advancement and reskilling for career changes. We complete all background activities required to set up our products for students to purchase and experience several delivery options.

Our Continuing Education opportunities are typically scheduled during daytime and evenings to suit a diverse learner population. Our learners are mature, focused, and want to be challenged.
The instructor's role is to professionally manage the learning process of the students and to ensure that students achieve established learning objectives to the maximum of their potential. The instructor is to make use of any and all available resources, methods, techniques and strategies, to ensure student success. The candidate is expected to work collaboratively with colleagues to create a learning environment which is pedagogically sound, technically supported and innovative in nature.
Note: We are currently building our Adjunct Instructor talent pool for potential opportunities during the 2023-2024 Academic Year. Hours and course assignments are not guaranteed; you will only be contacted if a teaching opportunity becomes available. These opportunities may consist of Corporate Training Projects, International Projects or Continuing Education courses.

The Role

    • Present lessons, lectures, assignments, quizzes, exams, lab activities and lab demonstrations for learners if applicable given the course outline
    • Maintain records for the purposes of grading, assessing professionalism and tracking attendance in both theory and lab classes if given the course outline
    • Manage the classroom or lab to ensure a positive learning environment
    • Show personal interest in the learner and create a climate conducive to optimal learning
    • Provide on-going support, guidance and advice to students
    • Attend all SAIT training as required
    • Achievement of School initiatives and Objectives
    • Be an active and engaged member of the School
    • Adhere to all safety legislation, guidelines and safety standards as required
    • Maintain contact with relevant industry sectors
    • All other duties as required for the position

Qualifications

    • Red Seal Journeyperson Electrician ticket, or Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFAA) Technician Certification, with current CFAA registration
    • Valid Membership with the CFAA, with recognition as a CFAA Practical Exam Invigilator
    • 3+ years of relevant industry experience as a Field Service Technician
    • Certified Master Electrician (CME) preferred
    • Previous experience facilitating SAIT's CFAA courses and invigilation of the CFAA Exams considered an asset
    • Experience and fluency with Office 365 (MS Word, Outlook and PowerPoint)
    • Experience with a Learner Management System (Brightspace or Moodle) considered an asset
    • Proficiency with videoconferencing technologies (MS Teams, Zoom, WebX, Skype, etc.) considered an asset
    • Fluent in English reading and vocabulary
    • Comfortable speaking to the public
    • Positive & respectful attitude
    • Ability to read, interpret and deliver specific curriculum
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Ability to organize and present written information
    • Training and knowledge of adult learning fundamentals
    • Formal training or education in facilitation or teaching considered an asset
    • Formal training in online technologies considered an asset
