The Role

A Transportation Engineer plays a crucial role in the conceptualization and execution of transportation infrastructure projects. They bring together their expertise in planning and design to develop innovative solutions for roadways, highways, and bridges, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards and client needs. Collaborating with diverse teams, they contribute valuable insights and technical guidance throughout the project lifecycle. Their responsibilities encompass conducting feasibility studies, analyzing traffic flow, and crafting comprehensive designs that prioritize safety and efficiency. With adept communication skills, they engage stakeholders and present findings with clarity and professionalism. Through their meticulous attention to detail and commitment to excellence, Transportation Engineers contribute significantly to the advancement of sustainable and resilient transportation systems.

The ideal candidate will have the following background, skills and attributes:

  • Completion of a university degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Licensee (P.L.(Eng.)) with APEGA or Equivalent.
  • 2 - 7 years' of progressive consulting experience completing transportation projects for Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors or Municipal clients.
  • Site Grading and Municipal Design experience would be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience with Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors design guidelines and construction specifications, as well as additional municipal specifications and servicing standards.
  • Ability to read and understand survey plans and drawings.
  • Excellent field negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • Available to travel, evenings and weekends may be necessary.
  • Demonstrated abilities in multidisciplinary project teamwork and coordination.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem solving skills and ability to think creatively.
  • Ability to work effectively independently or as part of a team.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and have access to a vehicle with valid registration and insurance.
  • Provide a 3-year driver abstract.

Key Responsibilities:

As a member of the Western Canada Infrastructure team, you will be responsible for assisting our project teams during design and construction project phases.

  • Create, manage and distribute project related documentation and correspondence.
  • Geometric design of highways, municipal roads, and intersections including urban and rural, new/greenfield and rehabilitation/reconstruction.
  • Coordinating project requirements with environmental, geotechnical, utility relocation, and land acquisition disciplines and sub-consultants as necessary.
  • Producing written planning and design reports.
  • Producing design spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel including checking quantities.
  • Producing construction specifications, tender documents, cost estimates, and aggregate requests.
  • Validating and Authorization of completed Professional Work Products.
  • Assisting in the completion of technical proposals and fee development.
  • Coordinate and provide meeting set-up for internal and external meetings.
  • Interpreting and implementing standards from provincial and federal regulatory bodies.
  • Maintaining positive client relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborating with design teams within other operating locations in Alberta and Ontario.
  • Maintaining a safe working environment by complying with all safety codes, guidelines, and regulations forming our Health, Safety & Environmental management system.
  • Participate in all assigned Health and Safety training programs.
