On July 27, 2023, TC Energy announced the intention to spin off our Liquids Pipelines business and separate into two independent, investment-grade, publicly listed companies – TC Energy and South Bow. Please note that all hires will continue to be formally employed by a TC Energy employing entity until the separation is complete.

The Opportunity

Our South Bow Controller team is looking to add an #EnergyProblemSolver in Calgary to support Cost, Capital, and Shared Services for South Bow.

Reporting to the Vice President and Controller, we are seeking an experienced accounting professional for the Manager, Cost, Capital, and Shared Services, for South Bow. In this role, the selected candidate will lead the financial processes related to cost management, capital projects, and shared services. This individual will have the proven skills, competencies, and capacity in accounting, as well as demonstrated team leadership abilities to grow and develop a dedicated team. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional stakeholders across our Commercial, Operations, and Projects teams to drive operational excellence and contribute to the continued growth and success of our South Bow operations.

This is an excellent opportunity for an accomplished accounting professional to take on expanded responsibilities in a key leadership position.

What you’ll do

Cost Management:

  • Review and approve short-term cost budgets, including variable tolls analysis.
  • Monitor cost variances and recommend corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with operational teams to optimize cost efficiency.

Asset Management:

  • Assist Asset Managers to oversee fixed assets and leases.
  • Prepare and review accurate recording, depreciation, and impairment assessments.
  • Collaborate with Asset Managers to enhance asset utilization and value.

Capital Projects:

  • Ensure compliance with capital expenditure policies.
  • Review capital project approval decision summaries.
  • Assess project feasibility, risks, and financial impact.

Shared Services:

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation
  • Provide support to Payroll and oversee cash application analysts.
  • Collaborate with finance, HR, and IT to streamline processes.
  • Monitor accounts receivable processes, teaming with Credit professionals on collections.

Team Leadership and Performance Management:

  • Lead a team of financial analysts and specialists.
  • Set performance goals, provide coaching, and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Foster a collaborative and results-oriented work environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • University degree in Business, Commerce or related field
  • Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
  • Minimum 10+ years of progressive accounting related experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems
  • Working knowledge and experience in Workiva or other financial reporting applications
  • Progressive experience at a public company in the North American energy sector
  • Superior analytical and problem solving skills
  • Proven leader with experience managing teams and brings success stories attracting, developing and retaining top talent​
  • Demonstrates the ability to make decisions and recommendations within established accounting procedures
  • Self-motivated with a strong analytical skill set willing to learn and tackle new challenges on an on-going basis
  • Has the ability to exercise independent judgment in selecting and interpreting information as well as handle deviations from standard methods
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to perform effectively under tight deadlines with multiple priorities
  • Proven team player with the ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision
