Your Role on our Team:

The Manager, Engineering and Construction is responsible for leading and managing a team in pursuit of the advancement of multiple ongoing Low-Rise, and High-Rise developments from acquisition through land use approvals and site servicing to assumption/condo registration.

In this role, you will:

  • Manages engineering design and approvals, tendering process, and site servicing for new and existing development projects;
  • Manages site servicing scopes, schedules, budgets, and engineering submissions;
  • Coordinates and manages the engineering consultant team to achieve leading-edge community designs; ensures engineering projects are delivered on time and within budget;
  • Obtains approvals of engineering applications from municipalities in accordance with project schedules;
  • Actively participates in high-level and detailed engineering design of Minto communities, oversees and reviews all low-rise engineering projects, and ensures the excellence of the engineering designs for all projects;
  • Is responsible for overall grading plans and reviews detailed lot grading plans;
  • Oversees overall earthwork and servicing strategies;
  • Manages tendering, evaluation, award, and administration of earthworks, site servicing, roads, erosion and sediment control, and landscaping contracts;
  • Assists with developing servicing schedules to support home construction start dates and commitments to closing deadlines;
  • Actively cooperates with our home construction team and supports site operations;
  • Provides input to the Acquisition Team on due diligence issues;
  • Assists with the management of appropriate records of approvals, engineering and landscaping plans, grading plans, permits, letters of credits, etc. for projects;
  • Promotes sustainability;
  • Negotiates or assists in negotiating relevant agreements pertaining to municipal undertakings and related permits;
  • Participates in public meetings for development approval applications;
  • Reviews and analyzes municipal engineering and planning initiatives and new policies and prepares internal reports.
  • Ensures all engineering work is executed in accordance with Minto policies and procedures as well as applicable government legislation; and
  • Ensures focus on collaboration, client service, and business success with the Project Team is maintained.
  • Focuses on cost savings and assists with Value Engineering exercises to ensure projects are delivered as efficiently as possible, on time, and maintaining a high level of quality;
  • Makes regular site visits, controls construction costs and site servicing progress, and attends construction meetings;
  • Ensures all Minto staff and trades partners abide by Alberta Labour regulations and Minto's Health & Safety Policies;
  • Ensure strong employee engagement through regular coaching, training, and meetings;
  • Sets high standards, establishes accountabilities, and measures performance consistent with Minto's Values;
  • Other duties within the scope, spirit, and purpose of the job, as requested by management.

We would like you to have:

  • Education: Post-secondary degree in Civil Engineering, Land Use Planning, or related field.
  • Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of previous engineering experience related to residential land development
  • Specialized Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
    • Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook and Excel, MS Project)
    • Knowledge of CAD would be an asset
    • Strong knowledge of engineering design
    • Knowledge of engineering and planning processes and planning theory as it relates to development
    • Sound negotiation and mediation skills
    • Team player
    • Proven analytical, research, and report-writing skills
    • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
