Cenovus is looking for highly motivated and ambitious Business, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics and or Engineering New Graduates to join our team. We have a number of opportunities within our Downstream and U.S. Operations function which may include: market analytics, market risk and commercial operations.

Work Environment

Our New Grad Development Program provides a breadth of experience by exposing you to a variety of opportunities through a rotational framework.  You will develop competencies in several areas critical to our downstream business and build a strong foundation for your success at Cenovus.  This is a permanent employee role based in our downtown Calgary office, commencing January or May 2021.

Our operations are divided into three principal disciplines. Your assignment to an area will be determined by business need, your past experience and your preference discussed during your interview.

Market Analytics

  • Individuals here focus on understanding the fundamentals behind oil and gas markets, covering production, demand, refining, storage, transportation, and pricing
  • Team uses data science techniques and predictive modelling to enhance the interpretation

Market Risk

  • Individuals here focus on daily identification, assessment, evaluation, management and reporting of market risk
  • Team collaborates closely with middle office teams to accurately reflect the financial and physical exposures and the attribution of economic profit and loss from the market optimization portfolio

Operations Logistics

  • Individuals in Operations Logistics support all aspects of trading and commercial operations activity
  • Includes the range of trade reporting, contracts, product quality, scheduling and customs


  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

  • Recently graduated from a business, engineering or mathematics program at an accredited university

  • A minimum cumulative and major GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (please attach copies of your transcripts)

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail

  • Critical thinker and ability to work independently with limited supervision in a fast-paced, high-performing, team environment

  • Flexible to changing work demands and ability to prioritize
  • Innovative, with a strong desire to learn and the ability to encourage new ways of looking at problems, processes or solutions

  • Demonstrates collaboration by actively seeking out diverse people and organizations to collectively achieve business goals

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills

  • Knowledge of programming and data science skills such as R/Python is highly desired

  • Understanding of key safety principles and demonstrated safety
