About this opportunity:

Under the direction of the Manager, Community & Indigenous Affairs (CIA), the Community and Indigenous Affairs Senior Advisor is responsible for developing and sustaining relationships among various Indigenous communities, elected municipal bodies or other partners primarily related to Cenovus's operations within the Christina Lake region.

This position may be a field based (remote) working position or based at Cenovus's corporate office in Calgary, AB. Frequent travel to site and community locations is required.

What you'll do:

  • Lead on the ground (regulatory) consultation with Indigenous communities;

  • Produce and maintain records associated with engagement and consultation activities including written summary reports, meeting agendas/minutes, records of consultation and contact lists;

  • Complete administrative functions (weekly reporting, expense management);

  • Establish relationships with Indigenous communities as well as internal/external partners inclusive of local municipalities within the region;

  • Act as a subject matter authority on effective and relevant local community (social) investment that will result in a strengthened reputation for Cenovus;

  • Anticipate and communicate risks and opportunities related to community engagement;

  • Work together with the Manager of Community & Indigenous Affairs to implement Impact Benefit Agreements where applicable;

  • Identify areas for continuous improvement;

  • Facilitate local Indigenous economic (business) inclusion in alignment with Cenovus's Indigenous Engagement Framework and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) targets;

  • Represent Cenovus at various community events;

  • Support, collaborate and interface on a regular basis with team members remotely.

Who you are:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada;

  • Minimum High school diploma or equivalent experience;

  • Post-secondary certificate or diploma in a related field;

  • Minimum of 8+ years of relevant, cumulative experience in regulatory applications, consultation, Indigenous engagement, community investment or community engagement;

  • Experience identifying stakeholder interests and working with Indigenous communities;

  • An understanding of the oil and gas industry, preferably the provincial regulatory requirements specific to Indigenous consultation guidelines;

  • Excellent communicator and presenter with strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills;

  • Self- starter, capable of working independently;

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint;

  • Professional association member, professional accreditation is an asset.

This position will require the successful candidate to:

  • Have and maintain a Class 5 driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.

  • Required to work outside core working hours (evenings and weekends) on occasion to support community events and various team objectives (consultation, meetings, etc.).
